Tributes

Ho-Yen, Serena, and Lisa: Jacqui told me about the kindness that Auntie Mary had bestowed upon her during her time in Hong Kong. She said that it was that kindness (and that of Uncle George) that had made her temporary exile in Hong Kong from British Guyana tolerable in the 1960s. Jacqui had not seen Auntie Mary for many years, and it was one of her bucket-list wishes to see her in New Zealand, which we did while on vacation in 2016. Sadly, Jacqui passed away that same year, but she so enjoyed the short time that she was able to visit with her Auntie Mary. My own recollections of Auntie Mary are very limited due to the short time that we were in New Zealand. She was so welcoming and kind, and her gentle spirit shone through. It was easy for me to understand why Jacqui was so fond of her. Sending you my heartfelt sympathies in the passing of your mother and hope that you find comfort in the memories of her long and well-lived life!
