Dear Helen, Adrian, Leah, Janet, and families – Your Oregon family sends our sincerest and deepest sympathy on Rob’s passing. I first met Rob when I tagged along on one of Rob and Helen’s first dates. I sat on the beach while they took a walk and returned hand-in-hand. I could tell then that Rob was infatuated with Helen. I was an attendant at their wedding, and that is where I connected with Helen’s brother Gordon, who became my husband and Rob and Helen became my in-laws. Even though Gordon and I moved first to Australia and then to the United States, we stayed in touch. Through the years we visited each other’s homes and communicated by letters and later online. Rob was very intelligent and quiet, but we always knew he was present in his thoughts, and occasionally he would express them. He had a very dry sense of humor. He was a kind and gentle man, who cared deeply for his wife Helen. On many occasions I felt his devotion for her. When Gordon and I went to Oregon for a month in August 1979, Helen and Rob cared for our nine-month-old daughter, Gillian. Rob backpacked her around the house, and we greatly appreciated his nurturing of her. Rest in peace, Rob. We love you. Glen, Geraldene, Grant, Gillian, and Georgette and families
