Tributes

You were a great friend Phapo, since your early days in NZ since migrating here from Joburg. We met you at the Catholic church Immaculate Conception Parish in Ellerslie. We met you in the church, and now farewell you (physically) at the church. Just shows the great woman of faith you were. The first day we welcomed you into our home to share a meal, you openly and warmly accepted the invitation straight away, and from that day you felt like family already! It was great to be part of your life when you celebrated big milestones, like getting your NZ citizenship and buying your own house! I remember when you welcomed us to your home when you first renovated it, pleased with how it turned out. And what a great job you did. Thanks again for the display cabinet you bought us in appreciation of our friendship, which we treasure. You always dressed beautifully in your traditional wear for Church, and we still use the traditional gifts you brought back for us from your last trip to Joburg, such as the wooden coasters for our coffees. We enjoyed fellowship at church, good laughs and you always being there when we called on you. Such a loyal friend. You always kept in touch too, sending messages of faith through Whatsapp. Rest now in peace dear, in the loving arms of our Lord. Condolences to the family.

Matshepo we connected from the very first day that your brother, my husband now Johnny introduced us. I only found out later it was because he needed your stamp of approval LOL 😆.... Distance could not stop you from keeping in touch with all of us and especially your brother Johnny , your daily morning calls will surely be missed. You leave behind huge shoes to fill and a beautiful legacy my dearest sister ....RIP ❤️ MaTshepo

Just a month ago or two ago my father and I were in the car in our way to school and he said, that we should call Phapo, so we did. When she answered she asked me when we were going to visit her and I said soon, she started telling my father where we should fly to when we go, and which airlines are the best. I’m sad that we are now going to New Zealand but she won’t be there to welcome us with open arms.

It is with deep sadness to learn of the death of Phapo, as we called her. An incredible human being. Full of joy, energy and above all love. A loving person who welcomed everyone in her home with such love. You would be mistaken and think Phapo new the person for a long time, only to learn it's the first time she sees a person. Very welcoming. Rest in peace my sister. To the family, which has also become my family, my deepest condolences
