We had the great pleasure to meet Steven, 4 years ago, at a visit, at the new home him and Linda moved to, the previous year. We had an amazing time sharing stories, lots of laughs and pictures, in the beyond description surroundings of their home by the Tasman Sea. That is the image of Steven we will treasure forever. Our condolences to Linda and the Broiles’ family. Julie Coll de Byrne and Frank Byrne
We were lucky to know Steve and Linda in Sierra Madre and to visit with Steve in Sierra Madre. It was great getting to know him in Pompeii for Eddie. He was always such a kind and strong person. We believe The world was always a better place because of his presence and he will be remembered with great fondness. So happy we were able to visit in NZ a few years back.
I practiced law with Steve for 20 years. I missed most of the service because of my technical problems, but I did hear Linda's remarks. I want to say two things about Steve. First, Linda's right he was tough but loyal. When our practice was having economic problems in the mid-90s, he could have been placed in any of several large firms on his own, without the extra baggage of my salary, but he wanted us to continue to practice together. Ultimately, we formed our own firm, and maybe that was better for both of us, but it was by far the best result for me. Second, and more interestingly, Steve was a good judge of single malt scotch whiskey. Back in the mid-90s, scotch was my go-to hard liquor. So, of course, his holiday gift to me was often a bottle of good single malt scotch. By the by, my tastes changed, and I stopped drinking scotch. But several bottles of scotch remained in my liquor cabinet. Last summer, some friends were at the house for dinner, and the subject turned to scotch for some reason. I rummaged through my liquor cabinet and found an unopened bottle of MacAllan 18-year single malt scotch circa 1979, one of Steve's gifts to me. We opened it and each of us sipped a shot glass full over ice. It seemed special to us. I looked online and discovered that a bottle of that scotch was retailing for $4,000. I kid you not. So, let us salute Steve for his good judgement about single malt scotch. Thank you for giving me this opportunity to say something, notwithstanding my ineptness at not being to stay online for the entire memorial service.
Though we didn't have the honor of knowing Steve directly, we knew he had to be a very special man to be in Linda's life. We enjoyed very much learning more about him and were very touched by the beautiful service.
Tena koe Linda, Please accept our sincerest condolences at this time. Thinking of you (and your whanau) at this time. Kia Kaha whaea. Mauriora
You'll be missed Steve.2l0
I knew Steve as an honest, thoughtful individual. His wit and sense of humor were uniquely his. A man of many interests that world was better for his being here --- I can only speak good things about Steve Broiles, he will be missed until we meet again ----
I did not know Stephen, but to have married a woman like Linda, i am sure he was a caring and extremely intelligent man. I am so sorry that he has passed, and I send my sincere condolences Linda and his entire family.
