Betty was a very kind and generous soul who made family, friends, and anyone else she befriended, so very welcome in her home. Every time I visited, she would either have some pauas, kinas or crayfish at the ready for me to "get stuck into" (her words)when I arrived.. I have so many wonderful memories of times we spent together (when she ventured back up North to visit, or when I visited her). Especially when I visited her, because the options were numerous.. Because I'm only two and a half years older than Betty, she thought that it wouldn't feel right for her to call me Aunty., but I could be her sister instead. So she decided that 'Lee' would be more appropriate, BUT if, and when she felt the need, she still had the option of calling me 'Aunty' (yes, she called the shots....proper dag she was).. Your memory will live on in the hearts of those you left behind.. And your KINDNESS is the greatest Legacy that you will leave to all of us. (The idea is not to live forever, but to create something that will)...I'll miss you very much Elizabeth (Betty) Pomeroy....And until we meet again, sleep easy my "sister niece"...You will always be remembered with Love. Your 'Sister-Aunty' (Lee and Family).TeAwamutu

Thinking of you all at this sad time, we have many fun memories of years gone by.

I played bowls with Betty at The Georgetown Bowling. Betty was a really caring and loving lady. Full of life and we had lots of laughs with her on Friday nights when we had our social nights. Betty will be missed. RIP Betty .

Betty was raised by her father's family in Northland. William Cooper / Koppa. Her mother was Polly Reweti. Both are deceased. Our family never met Betty until we heard about her living in Invercargill and she had already been married, had her children and some of her grandchildren. As Ron and I were living in Christchurch, we met Betty and George at their home in 2004 or 2005. This lady showed true hospitality and she was kind and generous in the way she cared for us. Betty later came to stay with us at our home and after the earthquakes, we moved north. There, Betty was: never forgetting whanau and she visited different family members up in the North Island; including us.. A phone call was never far away and we kept in touch on messenger and phone; discussed our family connections and our shared Maori Land interests. It didn't seem too long ago when Betty was very much involved in the bowling. club and she was keeping active by going swimming. I was told by Betty that her birthday was the same day as my husband, being the 19th February 1943, but, looking at the details from the Funeral Directors, it was January and not February., so, it looks as though you did get in another birthday Betty. It has been a pleasure getting to know you and our family and I will never forget you.. We were sad to hear of your passing., Love from us and your many relatives. Jeanette, Ron and Whanau xx

I remember Betty got a Pianola (Player Piano) in a house that George had renovated. She was just setting it up. I knew how they work, I was quite jealous, though I didn't say. However I have now got my own Pianola purchased from the Kingston Golf Club some years ago for $100. (Mind you, Betty's Player Piano was in better condition than mine currently is). She had her little dogs, and Jolene took after her Mum and got a wee dog too. Cute.
