I first met Paul when my Dad took me along to join Epsom Every Boys Rally. Paul was then an Assistant Leader to Ron Martin. Except for my own parents, for the next three decades Paul became probably the greatest formative influence in my life. A mentor in his field, in life, and in faith. Not only did he lead Epsom EBR, he was the driving force behind many Auckland-wide Rally events, in the development of Paparimu Camp, and later served as the Auckland Regional leader for Every Boys Rally. Through all this Paul had an amazing gift for connecting with, befriending, and helping boys. He was the first to see when a kid was troubled, and in his quiet way was the best I have ever seen in helping boys through whatever was troubling them. Paul was a quiet and humble man who knew God's call on his life and never lost sight of it. He modelled commitment. His word was his bond. He saw the image of God in every young person. Now he has run his race and has entered the joy of his reward - face to face with Jesus, his Saviour and ours.
