31 May 1963 – 21 March 2024
Suddenly and unexpectedly on Thursday 21 March 2024, at his home, aged 60 years. Much loved youngest son of Betty and Don, brother and brother-in-law of Mike and Janet. "Uncle Herbert" to Cameron, Fraser and Stephanie; and their partners. "Great" Uncle to Finley, Ollie and Belle. "Gone elsewhere to put the universe in order". An informal gathering for Stephen's friends and colleauges will be held at Grange Manor, 400 Dominion Road, Mt Eden, on Tuesday 2nd April, from 5.00pm - 7.00pm. Please come and share your memories of Stephen.
I just wanted to pass on my sincere condolences to all the family. I have known Steve since I first joined Tower nearly 10 years ago. He was very helpful to me then and continued to be until he left Tower. We had lots of chats about e-bikes, best routes through town, house renovations, how to create a garage underneath his house and other topics like getting rid of obsolete iMacs. Once he left Tower we would meet up every now and again for lunch in a Mt Eden café as I too lived in Mt Eden until Christmas this year. I am just so sad to hear of his passing ....................... Lesley from Tower
I wish we’d had more time to get to know each other. You only joined the project a week before your passing and we were all so excited to have you on board. Your reputation preceeded you, and it was clear from the first day that in addition to how amazing you are at the ‘worky stuff’ that your energy and personality were just an awesome fit. Steve, we will move forward, but you are irreplaceable. Sending my love to all of Steve’s family, and thank you for allowing us to come and share some stories with you this afternoon and say our farewells.
Steve was one of the first BA's who I worked with at Westpac and he was a great one at that. I will miss my banter with Steve, his witty comments and "let's get it done" attitude. He was well loved and respected by his colleagues and I feel so grateful to have worked alongside him. Here is one of my last teams messages to Steve: "I will let him know you have joined (a new project), and that you are also of very good value :P"
Steve and I could talk for hours about work, life and everything in between (books, Netflix shows, baking, etc.), but I am at a loss for words to describe him. We worked together for just over a year, but from the day we met we became buddies. He was one of the best Business Analysts I have worked with, and also my best friend at work. My day would feel incomplete if I did not have a 'natter' with Steve. A little known fact about Steve - he was a 'hot X bun aficionado':-) We had quite a few lively discussions on the topic this year! It was a privilege to be Steve's friend and I will miss him a lot.
Was looking at our messages to each other on projects and the laughs we have had , always will remember your thoughtfulness and ability to consider others at all times, a true gentleman , passionate, forward thinking, witty and just a darn good bloke! We always felt safe in your hands. Will miss you and your humour dear friend.Travel well.R.I.P
I worked closely with Steve throughout his time at Westpac. Not only was Steve brilliant in his role as a business analyst, he was an amazing guy, with his work ethic, sense of humour and witty retorts making him a pleasure to work with. It's difficult to express in words just how much I enjoyed knowing Steve, how much I enjoyed our gossip sessions and feeling we could talk/rant about everything and anything, and how much he meant to me. I feel privileged to have known him, and will miss him dearly.
It is a such shock to learn this sad new of Steve. Steve was the first BA i worked with when beginning the journey at Westpac, I admire the passion and professionalism he brought to work. I am grateful to the generous support provided by Steve when I first started out. Steve is so inspiring, and has been the people I would look up to in my WNZL career. Rest in the peace Mate.
Dear Nicholson family, I cannot imagine how painful the sudden loss of Steve must be for you all. I have worked closely with Steve for the past 2 and ¼ years, and his sudden loss has been very hard indeed for a number of us here at Westpac. I found Steve so easy to engage and talk with. When not talking work stuff we spoke about our shared interests, in music (specifically 70s and 80s trivia), cars (mostly the latest developments with Peugeot, Renault and Citroen), and holidays in Noosa (which I know he enjoyed with his brother Mike and family). I know Steve will be so proud knowing all the people who loved and cared for him. He not only had so much respect from his peers but also the warmth and kindness you get from friendships. To close this off I wanted to share our last words in 2023 (we did speak often in 2024) but they summarised our relationship well. [22/12/2023] Grant - Cheerio Steve. I am going to sign off now. See you in 2024 [22/12/2023] Steve - Sounds good Grant. Thanks for being such an awesome colleague and a good friend. Have a great break and see you next year! Love and prayers with you all. A friend of Steves, Grant.
Steve and I worked in a tight knit team on a challenging initiative. We didn't agree on everything in the project but I always saw Steve as someone very passionate but also very respectful, I valued our time working together You will be missed mate
Steve and I joined Westpac as Senior Business Analysts a week apart in September 2021 during COVID lockdown and we buddied up and had regular catch ups at Steve's suggestion during those first few weeks which was so valuable while we were all stuck at home. Steve was very passionate about everything he did - be it with his work at Westpac or promoting the House Of Science charity to his Business Analysis colleagues. I bumped into Steve in the stairwell at work with his usual smile and a wave just a few weeks ago so his passing is a terrible shock to me. Steve was always very funny, friendly, thoughtful, smart, and enthusiastic - in short a great guy to have around. He will be sadly missed. Peter
In the short time Steve was with us, he has certainly left an unforgettable imprint on everyone that crossed his path. His energy, his calm demeanour, his considered dialogue and most of all, his sincere investment in coaching and growing his peers is what separated him from most. Privileged to have crossed his path. Will truly miss his presence! Go well Steve, the void you've left will undoubtedly be impossible to fill! Kimesh
On behalf of myself and the wider Use & Grow squad at Westpac that worked so closely with Steve in recent years, we are saddened (and still in a state of shock) at hearing this tragic news. Steve was always a gentleman. Kind hearted in nature but firm in the way he went about things. He would always sign off with a smile and leave you looking forward to the next interaction. Steve was so good at what he did and he had so much more to offer the world. It is an understatement to say that he will be missed. Rest easy fella.
