It is with profound sadness that on 28 March 2024, that we announce the passing of Terry. A devoted husband to Mavis, a loving father to Janine & Neil, Allan & Varissara. A cherished grandfather and Great grandfather to nine. A service for Terry will be held at a later date.
I often stayed at Nana and Terry's during school holidays. During this time Terry was still running his fencing business and so there was often a tour of the fences of Papamoa to see the progress since I'd last visited. It also meant riding in the back of the ute to get back to Terry's place on the nice summer days if I had been on the other side of the golf course at Nana Wyn and Clive's. The golf course was always a mainstay of any visit whether it was being a caddy, practicing shots on the empty section next to the house, with the added bribe that if I could match Terry's shot then he would buy me a full set of clubs (I never did quite get far enough) or knowing when the golfers had finished for the day so cricket could be practiced or the sprinklers run through in summer. The beach was also a special place where I was taken swimming and on the frequent hunt for pipis so they could be marinated or made into fritters. To this day no one can match Terry's marinated pipi recipe and also his fried bread / French toast was amazing if not unique. Thanks Terry for the experiences, opinions and life you shared. You will be missed!
Hi Terry I really miss you and my fun times with you.
Grandad "Terry" was a welcoming man who through sarcasm, stubbornness, and a warm heart always made you feel at home. He was always fun to be around growing up with his teeth trick, insistence on being called Terry, or gut punches when you tried to kiss his head. He wasn't a story teller but gave his opinion whenever he had one regardless of want or need for one. He always asked how you were and what you were up to, showing genuine care for what you were doing even if he didn't get it. We miss him already. We will share his stories with our daughter Annabelle so she can get joy from knowing him as we have. Love you Granddad.
In a land not so far, there lived a man, Terry by name, Whose life was an epic, a bright, burning flame. With a laugh like a melody, pure and clear, He journeyed through life, spreading cheer. For sixty-six years, with Mavis, his wife, He played the fairways, a golf partner for life. Together they swung, through life's vast green course, A duo in love, an unbreakable force. Janine, his daughter, with spirit so bright, And Allan, his son, a beacon of light. They learned from their dad, with each cricket swing, That life’s more than wins, it’s how you're in the ring. Nine grandchildren, great ones too, Gathered around, their love ever true. In stories and laughter, they'd often bask, In the glow of the legacy, Terry's remarkable task. In the quiet of nature, hunting so still, Or teaching life's games, he shared his skill. Not just in sport, but in life's great play, Teaching patience and fairness, in his own way. Terry, the teacher, mentor, and friend, His principles, his shelter, right to the end. Not just in words, but in deeds so bright, He stood for the right, with all his might. So here’s to Terry, with a cheer so loud, A father, a beacon, in every crowd. Forever remembered, in stories we share, In the laughter, the love, in the hearts that care. And so, the legend of Terry lives on, In every chuckle, in every dawn. A remarkable man, in our tales and our songs, In the legacy of love, where he truly belongs.
