To our lovely Richard, I have struggled to find words sufficient as a tribute to you, so I have decided to keep it pretty simple. We love you and miss you greatly. You were so very loved in your life. In part shown by the many, many visitors you received in your last weeks and the many more who weren’t able to make it in time. We will miss your beautiful smile, the stories you told about dad, the way your face lit up whenever any of your grandkids were around, how you cared for mum, your building advice, your big hugs and your even bigger laugh. We will remember you always and forever tell stories about all the wonderful times we shared. Lots of love, Tania, Mark, Reid and Piper
Richard and my brother Roly arrived in NZ at the same time. They were friends all Roly's life and I don't think Roly could have had a better friend than Richard. I was fortunate to meet Richard soon after Roly's death over 20 years ago which meant a lot to me. He was such a lovely man and remained a wonderful friend to all the family.
Our hearts are broken a great man gone too soon He welcomed us into his family like we were part of it He always had the biggest smile and many wise words were spoken over a beer and wine regularly We will miss him dearly Lots of love Jonathan Mel Jacques Hugh and Amber Maitland 💕💕
We had the pleasure of meeting Richard when he moved into the minor dwelling with Pru at the Tomes. As semi regular visitors, we would often see Richard and enjoyed our chats with him. Richard always had a smile and was a kind, hardworking man who was always happy to help and put his handy man skills to use. Our thoughts and love are with all his family he leaves behind xxxx
One of life’s true gentlemen. A lovely man, super kind with a genuine warmth about him. What a huge loss this must be. All of our love and thoughts go to Pru, Richard’s family and all of his extended family who I know loved him very much. We are thinking of you. Love from The Sunderland Family xxx
We were so lucky to have Richard in our lives. Happy memories of sailing as kids, even during a cyclone. He embraced our family and became a special part of it. Loved a bonfire, filling the firewood shed, and a beer or two. He was always around to help with a building project and provide expert advice and guidance. Thank you for all your love, kindness and support. We will miss you forever and hope that you are enjoying a beer and a good catch up with Roly and Rob ! Love Mel, Glen, Sophie, Lennox, Ned & Marley xxx
