CROWTHER, Russell John. Peacefully after a long courageous battle, with family by his side, on Thursday 4th April 2024, in his 78th year. Dearly loved husband and loyal friend to Kaye. Loving and supportive father and father-in-law of the late Brandon, Jane and Grant Milne, Greg and Sharon, Kate and Chris McIlwrick. Proud and caring poppy of Emily, Harrison, Mackenzie, Brandon, Abbey, Caitlyn, Bailey, Mason, Jamie, Jessie Mae. Son of the late Brandon (Bill) and the late Mavis. Loved brother and brother-in-law of Bruce and Deborah, Barbara and Gerry, Peter and Olwyn Bailey, the late Barry. Loved uncle to all his nieces and nephews. Loyal cobber to many. A service to celebrate Russell`s life will be held at Club Southland 115 Leet Street, Invercargill on Wednesday 10th April 2024 at 1 pm followed by a private cremation. Donations to Hospice Southland would be gratefully accepted and can be made at the service. If you cannot attend Russell’s service please see his tribute page for the livestreaming. Kaye, Jane and Grant, Greg and Sharon, Kate and Chris, together with their families and our Grandchildren Emily, Harry, Mackenzie, Brandon, Abbey, Caitlyn, Bailey, Mason, Jamie and Jessie Mae would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who supported us over Russell’s long courageous battle with cancer. To our friends and neighbours who have supported and visited us over many months and continue to do so. To those who attended Russell’s farewell, sent flowers, brought food, baking, sent cards, messaged and telephoned support. These acts of kindness were truly appreciated by us all. To Dr Gwen Pinches and her team at Oncology, the District Nurses who called at our home regularly over many months, to all the medical people who helped make Russell’s journey easier, we thank you all for your care of Russell. To the team at Southland Hospice who gave palliative care at home thank you. You all showed compassion and patience, we will be forever grateful to you all. We thank all those who made Russell’s farewell so special. Our sincere thanks to the Menzshed for making Russell’s casket and performing the guard of honour on the day. To those who spoke at the service thank you.To Gerry McSoriley singing Danny Boy, Sharyn Payne our Celebrant, Jamie and Renee McGinnis, together with Sharron and her team from Macdonald and Weston for helping make Russell’s farewell so special for us all. While we all miss Russell heaps he is now at peace. He will be in our hearts forever. Please accept this as a personal acknowledgement for all of your amazing support and love shown to us as a family.
