Dear Janet and family, It was with heartfelt sadness that we heard of the passing of Harvey. He was a considerate and effective leader in his church Flagstaff, and a mentor to many .Harvey and Janet were a great team, known for their friendship, personable and caring approach to everyone. May God wrap his loving arms around you all as you remember a very special man.
Sorry to catch up with the sad news of Harvey's death. I am lucky to have shared some time with him. NZDA Board meetings when he was the Editor of the NZDJ. A job he did so well for so long. His writing was always accutate and expressive. That was no better demonstrated than in his last book "Sir John Walsh". A book which all of us are so pleased he wrote. Very few people I have known were as talanted , approachable and as modest as Harvey. My sincere condolances to Janet and the members of the family.
So sorry to hear of Harvey's passing. I have known Harvey since the late 1970s, when I was an undergraduate. In subsequent years, he was an important mentor for me - as both a researcher/writer and as an editor. He had an enquiring mind and set high standards. He very generously got me working with the Dunedin Study as soon as I got back to Dunedin in 1996. We both enjoyed running and music too. I owe him so much. My condolences to Janet and family.
I only heard of Harveys passing from my ex Neighbour Josie, on Saturday morning. I was very upset as we all have a long association with you all . My thoughts are with you all as I also lost my very dear friend Barbara on 12 January this year with the same complaint. We all had many happy visits from each other over the years. Janet , I will give you a phone call when things settle down. Thinking of you all. Lots of love, Judith Reader
I was sad to read of Harvey’s death in the ODT this morning. I first knew Harvey when we were dental students in the 1950’s and was fortunate to be able to keep up a friendship with him over many years while we were both on the staff of the Dental School in Dunedin. I also knew him through the musical scene in Dunedin. He contributed greatly to many aspects of life in Dunedin and further afield. Harvey set very high standards in everything he did and was always approachable, helpful and friendly and I remember him with a great deal of affection. My sincere condolences to Janet and the family.
