Our heartfelt condolences to Peter, Denise, and your families. We were extremely sad to hear of your dear Dad's passing. Jack and Shirley were treasured friends of our Mum and Dad (Don and Melva Gray) and Jack was Dad's best man at their wedding on 15th June 1957. They maintained a wonderful friendship over the years that included several memorable holidays together. I will always remember "Uncle Jack" being a kind, caring, knowledgeable man, and a true gentleman. R.I.P Jack Love from "The Grays" Steve, Karen, Tracey

To Hawkes family, Jack will be a loss to his family and Taranaki society. My thoughts are with the family at this difficult time. Jack served on the South Taranaki District Council for many years and in that role also served on the Taranaki Regional Council, in a policy governance role. In that role his nickname was 'gentleman Jack' given the distinguished way he conducted himself and got his point across. Jack was also involved in Federated Farmers and other regional organizations. Jack is survived by a wonderful family, who I know, that have his values and will proudly carry the Hawkes name forward. Fred McLay TRC and Friend

To the Hawkes Families, Sending my sincerest condolences to you all on the passing of Jack. Jack and Shirley were life long friends, farming neighbours for many years with us doing business deals on several occasions in the days when a shake of a hand was a man’s word.
