I worked with Evelyn at William Gill & Sons in Huntly approx 1975 to 1979. I had just returned from 18 months overseas and was full of confidence and with flash overseas clothes and I drank wine with dinner on weekends and no doubt was a bit of a pain. I thought she was untrained in accounts and wouldn’t answer the business phone when she should. Evelyn gave me a hard time and made me not want to go to work. She was gently rude to me with a smile is how I saw it. Any chance she got she razzed, critiqued and stopped me in my tracks. I was very close to my mother and went shopping with her once a month. Evelyn told me I hadn’t stopped being a child and should grow up rather than wanting to be with my mother shopping I felt hurt and became silent at work and looked for another job. Then she changed and started talking to me nicely and not saying cryptic not so nice things. Over the next years working together I found out she was a fine woman of great integrity. She told me about her mother dying and it made me understand why she was triggered by me having a mother to go shopping with. I had created other triggers also and they seemed to melt away. We parted ways with a hug and I never saw or heard from her again. But I often thought of her.
Rest in Peace Aunty Evelyn . Togeather again with Uncle Bob. Forever in our hearts ♥️ Love Gael, Grant, Justin & Gavin
