When I heard of Jaz’s passing it reminded me of all of the good memories and the positive impact that he had on me life. I decided to write a poem in his memory. Bucket hats and Basketball A champion of one, A champion so young, Beating cancer, you stood so tall, Your smile shone bright behind bucket hats and basketball Your time with us so short and so sweet, May the staircase to heaven not be too steep. Dear Floss, Brad, Alexandra and Kaleb Jaz was the most beautiful and genuine young man who left a lasting impression. He will always hold a place in the heart of Libby and myself. Selfless, compassionate and generous with his time and energy, we will long remember his kindness and the way he helped and supported others despite fighting his own battles. There are few if any young men who had the integrity that Jaz had. We will think of him often and extend our deepest amd heartfelt gratitude to you all for raising such a wonderful young man. It was a true honour to hang out with Jaz on Wednesday nights at Youth! His energy and warmth was infectious and added such positivity! He approached each game with determination and fun! I loved how he interacted with all - younger members and us oldies. Every interaction with Jaz meant something and impacted those around him. We are so very sorry for your loss and pain. I wrote this letter as a goodbye to Jaz but couldn’t bring myself to say it today. Hey Jaz, I hope you can hear me wherever you are. I’m going to miss you and I know I’m not the only one. You had such a contagious smile and personality. Everyone you came in contact with left with a more positive aura. I wish you could’ve seen it the way I saw it, the way I admired it. Even though we became distant you never stopped having an impact on me, whether that was through me pushing myself to get the grades you believed I could get, or through putting myself out there in school and life, or even through passing trigonometry after our many tutoring attempts. I remember the first time we had hung out at the beach and you said I was one of the bravest people you had met even though you were the one who overcame a brain tumour. That night I went home and researched what you had, I think I read all the articles I could find on it and you. But when I looked up your name the other day majority of them were about your death. I’m deeply sorry that you’re gone because you had such a strong future ahead. When you knew I was going through a rough period you wrote in my 16th birthday card “I am certain that what you are going through, when the seemingly never-ending storm recedes, the sun will come out and you will thrive.” I’m sorry that you weren’t able to make it through the storm but just know you were severely loved by you family and peers and still are in your passing. Goodbye Jaz, I’ll miss you forever and I hope we meet again in another life. I am truly sorry for your loss Brad, Floss, Zandra and Kaleb. Jaz was a fantastic person and i’m glad i had met him

So sorry I can't be there today Jaz for your family, I will always remember you from Mangorei school 1st XI cricket days, when you would run into bowling with such energy and enthusiasm.
