I worked with Monty in our Wellington days as Police Officers in the early 1980s. We worked I cars together out of Wellington Central. There was never a dull Monty when working with Monty. We did a lot of work and had a lot of fun (most of which our bosses never found out about). I often joked with Monty that he was the junior man (which he was in service) but in reality he bought a maturity and demeanour that immediately demanded respect by our “clients” on every shift. He was professional, capable and always positive no matter what we were investigating. His knowledge of military history was always a wonder to me . In one particular shift Monty enquired as to what I knew of my fathers army service in WW2. It was minimal, however Monty was able to tell me my fathers service in several campaigns just by knowing where he came from. He certainly valued the comraderie that he found both in the armed forces and in the Police. Go well Monty. RIP mate!!!
