Jand L Tucker As I listened to the words of the Nog’s Eulogy I was reminded of a time far ago at the end of the last century when life appeared to be a box of apples or Kiwi fruit. A beer was just something that I thought of as a harmless thirst-quenching drink at the end of a hot summers day. Those days are behind us. Now we live in harsher times. The news is filled with war, famine, and a lot of your forebears came to NZ from Wales and Uk to get away from this. I hope you are now sharing a beer with those people who came on those boats and set you up in paradise. Maybe you are now having a beer with other relatives who made up your former rellies? Simon Thomas was born in 1880 in Pembrokeshire, Wales, to Mary Lewis, age 41, and Daniel Thomas, age 39. Hum Aroma Lin

So sorry to hear of John's passing. What a huge contribution he has made to our community in so many areas. I will always be grateful for his wise words to me when I was elected to Council, his ongoing advice and support meant so much and I was sorry we didn't get to serve together as Councillors, that would've been fun! John was a lovely man with an infectious smile, sense of humour and more than his fair share of common sense. He will be hugely missed, my thoughts and condolences with all the family.

Dear Heather and family, I'm so sad to hear about the loss of John. He was a special man who gave so much to surf lifesaving, the council and to you, his family. Back in about 1985/86, I wrote a profile on him for the Taranaki Daily News and described him as a small monk-like man. But he wasn't actually monk-like at all. He was full of life, often cheeky and always determined to get stuff done. And he did! I liked him very much. Please accept my sincere condolences and thanks to all of you for sharing John so he could be such a community champion and a surf lifesaving leader. Kindest thoughts, Virginia
