Tributes

Words written for Steve, shared at his funeral : The eternal wave What colour is the ocean? When it’s deep it’s blue, when you hold it, it slips through. When you look at it, it shimmers and shines showing the reflection of yours and mine. It comes and it goes, it builds and it falls. It never stops moving, and no two parts of it are the same. It holds magic, the waves, the life within. It provides again and again and every second breath of yours and mine. You can chase the sea, the surf, the waves but only few catch it. The ones who know the true meaning of life are determined to find the endless wave, rolling on and on. The one where the sea touches the sky. The one that rumbles and rolls, that keeps on stoking. Forever and ever and ever

Tribute to Steven Moir Home brews after haymaking in the hot school holidays, Hooning around in the red Viva as teenagers. Captain Morgan and Coruba straight from the bottle with coke chasers until gone, and the mad escapades which followed. His Hitachi double take deck ghetto blaster in the back seat blasting The Dead Kennedys, The Partisans, and Sticky Filth. Possum and duck shooting on the Whangaripo farm, and Duffy the dog. Days in the surf after school at Te Ari in the summer. Fishing on the boat with Bob and the boys. Our first concert, Billy Idol at the Super Top and the bus trip down with not enough beers. Punk gigs in Auckland, and watching Henry Rollins at the Gluepot, and Steve yells out ‘Too much American Hype’ during a song break. The road trip down south with Garrick and Warwick in an old XA Falcon, and Steve and I hide in the boot to get onto the Cook Straight Ferry. Crazy fun in Oz in the 90’s. So many episodes of endless laughter with mates. As with everyone who was close to Steve, the memories are flooding in. His voice, still fresh in our ears. Always keen for a phone call, and always the same Steve no matter how many years go by. Always keen for a yarn and always on the go. Steve’s life was a big one. From a young age with ideas and designs, he always came through with amazing results and skill. So many accomplishments, and so many friends. Steve had time for everyone, and always had the best advice and huge positivity. That infectious grin and laugh, and his endless generosity. We owe a lot to his parents Annie and Bob Moir for raising such and amazing guy and giving us such a friend. Steve will leave us with the honor and privilege of knowing him, growing with him, and sharing his world. His strength and memory will live on in all of us. An absolute legend of a guy and a pillar of strength for his family, Anne, Bob, Loc, and Jess, who he was immensely proud of and loved so much. Rest in peace Steve, We'll miss you mate.

Love and deepest sympathy from the Baylys community, very sorry to lose such a nice bloke, saw them over here often when it was too big to paddle. In ocean waters no poppies blow, No crosses stand in ordered row, There young hearts sleep beneath the wave, The spirited, the good, the brave, But stars a constant vigil keep For them who lie beneath the deep. 'Tis true you cannot kneel in prayer On certain spot and think. "He's there." But you can to the ocean go... See whitecaps marching row on row; Know one for him will always ride, In and out with every tide.
