Tributes

Uncle Percy taught me things ever since I was a kid. He always knew what he was talking about, just like his children. His confidence and humour were inspirational. He was an important part of my life. I still can't imagine how he managed to go to university and graduate after retiring. It's such an amazing accomplishment. I can't believe he's no longer here but he deserves to be in a better place. May you rest in peace Uncle Percy. You're a shining star who will always be remembered.

Robert Kwan

I will always remember Percy fondly for his kind nature, strong intellect, positive attitude and engaging and sometimes challenging conversations. He was one of a kind, and better for it. You'll be missed Percy. Rest in Peace

Anthony MacLean

I reflect back to my early memories of Uncle Percy, which were after moving to Auckland from Opotiki as a 8-9 yr old. I recall regular family visits to Walmsley Rd where Uncle Percy was always hard working in the greenhouses or gardens. Despite the long work hours, he would always had time for family, and became a devoted father/parent when he & Aunty Mavis had their own family. He was honest, determined & dedicated, a straight forward and outspoken person, however I don't ever recall him having a bad word to say about anyone. He would always look for the positive aspects, even in diversity. He was a deep thinker about many topics & to me, became quite philosophical over time. He demonstrated commitment & determination to begin studying Mandarin after retiring, attaining Degree level competency. Sadly Uncle Percy leaves behind a devoted & loving family, however I think we all carry some warm & cherished memories of our times with him - He can be proud of his legacy. Uncle Percy - May You Rest In Peace
