What a lovely celebration of Ian's life. I first met Ian in 1990 on a visit to NZ staying with Sean & Sarah in Herne Bay. You always knew with Ian that you were meeting a real character with a real world knowledge of life. His art brings out that love of life and its associated frailties. I even got to join him one Boxing Day at Ellerslie. When I once sung in front of him he would tell me I lacked 'pathos'. That was a big word for me and I needed a dictionary to help me understand it. After a while I knew what he meant so added some into my performing. Thankfully I was lucky to meet Ian in late March this year on a trip to NZ. He had not changed much after all these years and was in great form as always. I feel lucky to have seen him and offer my condolences to his family and wide circle of friends. Suaimhneas síoraí air. I met Ian years ago at the New Lynn RSA in the TAB section. A real gentleman, and got on well with him. Found him good company. He will be missed by several of us punters in the NLRSA. RIP
