Margo Esther Nugent DePuy died peacefully at her home in Auckland New Zealand on Thursday 18 July 2024. She was surrounded by her husband Jacques and her children Marjorie, Hillary and Trevor. She was 82.

Margo was born in Tauranga, New Zealand on 9 May 1942 to Alice Marie Arnold and Royden Leslie Nugent. She grew up in Williamsport, Pennsylvania USA, graduating Williamsport High School in 1960. She attended American University in Washington DC, where she was an editorial assistant for the Bald Eagle Humor magazine and worked in the Registrar’s office, where she met her husband Jacques. They were married for 58 years.

She enjoyed playing tennis, golf, bridge and Mahjong with family and friends throughout her life. She had many travel adventures and also appreciated quiet time in a beach chair with a good book. In her early career she and Jacques embraced life on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C., where she worked for a U.S. Congressman and Secretary of Transportation, volunteered for the Board of Elections and delivered Meals on Wheels.

Margo raised three children and was actively involved in their activities, sparking life long readers and independent thinkers. As a family they shared many happy memories walking nature trails, playing board games and spending time at the beach. She was a proud business owner of a unique retail shop in Arlington, VA for ten years. Margo loved hosting friends and family for Thanksgiving and New Year’s celebrations and random days in between.

Words cannot convey what a remarkable person she was, nor her generosity, energy, humor, strength, warmth, love, caring, feistiness, zest for life and a myriad of other qualities and characteristics. She is deeply loved and sorely missed.

Given the distance from her friends and family across the US and Canada, the family encourages you to remember Margo with a walk on a beach and a toast to life.
