Funeral service held at Eagars Te Henui Chapel
Our heart felt condolence’s to you Faye and to all of Peter’s family and friends. I had the pleasure of knowing Peter as Social Work colleague at Base Hospital and he was such a kind, compassionate person and wonderful Social Worker and a pleasure to have known all these years. It was also wonderful to then have Peter and Faye as our neighbours when they moved next door to us. Lots of yarns followed over the fence whilst gardening about our shared interest in our garden bird visitors. Rest in Peace Peter and our thoughts are with you Faye. What a wonderful send off which we watched on video. We are so sorry we were unable to attend. Carol & Brian
Our sincere condolences go out to Faye and the Hickey families We were so sad to hear of Pete's passing and have just viewed the beautiful funeral service online. He was a such a gentle, kind hearted soul which came through time and time again with the words spoken about his life. Pete had a times a really wicked sense of humour and you could have conversations with him about anything and everything; a really interesting man. Our paths have crossed many times over the years at various ‘Hickey’ events and we even had the pleasure of seeing Pete play live with one of his bands. We were also with him in Ireland when he was nervously getting ready to ask Faye to be his wife… We also had the pleasure of him staying with us a few days in Germany before he joined his work group there. Detlef always enjoyed golf when he got to play with the Hickey boys together, who usually ended up ‘discussing’ their scores at length long after a game! Our thoughts are with you all... RIP Detlef und Leigh (in Germany)
To Faye and everyone that had Pete in their family. Thinking of you all, thank you for making it possible to witness his special farewell. My thoughts are with you all. Such a lovely guy
Faye and all the Hickey family, You have given Pete a wonderful sent off with very special memories shared. I recall Auntie Bette telling me how she was a little sad as Pete had to sell one of his saxophones so he could keep studying. What a great investment he made in himself. It certainly paid dividends in his future. Thinking and sending love to you all. Julie & Rob
My condolences go out to Faye, family and friends. So sorry to hear of the passing of Pete. Such a lovely, kind person and great family. I particularly have very fond memories of the Hickey family reunion in Irleand, all those years back. Neat times. Thinking of Arnold and family too. God bless. Sarah Hickey (Paddy & Nola's daughter)
My condolences to Faye and all the families. That was a lovely farewell to be able to watch from Sydney. I have many memories of Pete (usually with Arnold!) Pete always took the time to listen and was genuinely interested. He was a kind and caring soul. My dad, the late Paddy Hickey, loved the twins! They shared a caring, fun and mischievous nature. Lordy knows what Pete & Paddy will get up to now... RIP Pete.
Thinking of you Faye and remembering what an extraordinarily kind and good hearted man Pete was. It was a beautiful service and I’m sure Pete would have loved the laughs and memories with you all. The kids and I have been talking about how the best way to honor their great uncle is to be as good a person as they can be and to try and have a small impact on the world in his memory.
Watching you all now you beautiful people, wish i could be there to hug and celebrate Pete's life and memories together! All my love! Josh
