Saw this by chance! Rest easy Hugh, I have many fond memories visiting the Woolly’s as i grew up two houses down at 6 Kowhai place with my Grandma and Grandpa, Betty and Arthur Gordon. I often had the job of taking a videotape of coronation street across to the Woolies because Jocelyn had missed it the night before. Hugh was often up to mischief of one kind or another and Jocelyn was often shaking her head at him and telling him how silly he was.

Hugh was not simply a cousin to us. We consider Hugh, Jocelyn and family our best friends as well. We always loved travelling from Western Australia to visit the ‘Woolly Mob’ as often as possible. Unfortunately, we received the sad news of Hugh’s passing on the same day that we were arranging plans to visit in early October to celebrate his 99th birthday. We could not make it for the day of his birthday this year so we were planning a belated celebration with him. It is with great sadness that we have missed seeing Hugh again but we feel blessed in having shared some wonderful experiences with him and his family that will remain in our memory for ever. Also sadly, it is not possible for us to attend the funeral but we will be there in our thoughts and will raise our glass and toast to Hugh tonight. We send our love to Jocelyn, Amanda & Ian, Brenda & Jen and families on the passing of this wonderful man, Hugh.

A good man gone. A great neighbour and friend who was never short of a laugh and fun. He was a cat with nine lives after several tractor incidences but his spark was infectious. We will remember you. Love Fred and Colleen
