Tributes

Claude Williams joined North Kirra Surf Club in 1959. Claude was the "epidemy" of a Gentleman. Even though he was not at North Kirra for an indefinite time, he certainly "left his mark". Claude singlehandedly, with the assistance of 30 odd very unskilled labourers built a 2 story Clubhouse to house fifty (50) odd lifesavers in the space of 12 months. Claude worked tirelessly every weekend to complete this mammoth job. Claude was made Life Member number three (3) in 1961 in recognition of this amazing accomplishment. I had the pleasure of him being a very close friend for over sixty (60) years, and every time we met up again, it was just like "yesterday"!! I personally am going to miss you ol'mate and I know I speak on behalf of the whole North Kirra "family" in that regard as well. The attached photo is of Claude doing his Bronze Medallion Exam on February 1st 1959. That is me 3rd from left with Claude beside me 4th from left. Rest in Peace ol'mate!!! - George Doniger

On behalf of North Kirra Surf Club - the Old Boys, Life Members and all members past and present, we convey our deepest condolences to Claude's family and friends. Claude will always be revered and remembered as one of North Kirra's 'favourite sons'. His contribution to the building of the new clubhouse in 1960 guaranteed the future success of North Kirra.
