Dad and I were still in phone conversation up until around the start of 2024. He had broken down and expressed his deep yearning for us to see each other before he died. I said “ mate we will “ . I’m deeply happy to keep that last promise with my dad and if a lot of other things fell by the wayside throughout life this was the one that almost meant the most ! I’ll never forget the enormous smile that he had when I walked in that home in late July ! I’ll keep that image for ever and that , if anything , I kept my promise ! Love ya dad and thanks for being you ! I’m forever greatful . X
Thank you everyone for your gracious words. As someone who is a little notorious for talking a lot my father's passing has left me without words. I hope to just simply inspire and share joy like my Dad did. Thanks again.
I loved growing up with you as teenagers going to Te Awamutu College. Our antics in the Trampoline club were always guaranteed to get a laugh from the kids, and a rebuke from the teachers. Although we drifted apart as adults, ending up in different countries, I always felt a kinship that distance couldn't dim. I'm so glad we caught up again in Tauranga before nature reclaimed you. I roto i taku maharatanga tonu - always in my memory. Your mate Phil.
Noel John McGechie or Mr Mac, we will always remember your friendly smile, your banter and your expert advice on the latest car race or All Black game. Loved listening to all your stories about growing up in Ohaupo, from your overseas travels with your Lin, motor racing or rugby. You were always a kind, generous and just a special person to spend time with. Go well my friend.
Hello again Lin. I've tried several times to leave a tribute to Noel. I can't get to the site & realised that this has happened with NZ sites before. I'd be happy if you cut & pasted my words as a tribute &/or keep them for "you". We both truly enjoyed our time with you & Noel. We were lucky to meet the man you fell in love with, & to spend time with you both at Mornington Peninsula. Always treasure your best memories. 💗💗

I’ve always said you’re my favourite brother-in-law tongue in cheek as you’re my only brother-in-law but now that you are sadly gone I’m changing your status to the best brother-in-law ever. You made Lin so happy and you enjoyed so many adventures together and made friends worldwide in the process. So sad for you to have endured what you did in the end but you will be remembered as the awesome man you were and missed by us all. Much love your sister-in-law from Oz Jan xxxxxxx
Gone to soon but will never be forgotten. Noel a dear friend and a great lover of the All Blacks, hope you meet up with Dave and get to have a beer and watch the great AB's
Noel you were a kind and caring man with great wisdom and knowledge. You had a love of outdoor activities that you graciously shared with others. You will be missed my friend.
One of the nicest, kindest people it has been a privilege to have known. Great sorrow not to have been able to share a coffee and cake before you passed. Fondest regards, Chris and Val
My darling Noel. It's many years since we first met in Marlow, UK. When you offered to help my husband Martin train for a running event. I tagged along - and I've been running ever since. I've run 10ks, and half marathons, in the UK and India, all because of you. I'm so glad we've managed to see you a few times since you returned to NZ, and have many happy memories of meals and trips down rivers and to the beach together. Rest in peace, Noel, and let's catch up on the other side with our running shoes at the ready. Love you loads, Alison
