Tributes

I first met Kevin when I was 16. At that time, I had no real idea of what hard work truly meant. But Kevin? He was hard work personified. He took me under his wing and showed me what it was all about. Day in and day out, Kevin drilled into me the values of dedication, perseverance, and taking pride in a job done well. He was the one who supervised me through my journey to becoming a Certifying Drainlayer, and I owe so much of my early growth to him. Though I no longer work in the trade, and these days I find myself working for lawyers in Aussie - something I know Kev would've given me shit about! I know I wouldn't be where I am today without the grit and determination he played a role in teaching me. I still remember my first day meeting Kev. Ron dropped me off on Duke street where Kev pointed me towards a shovel and wheelbarrow. Kev and I spent the whole day wheelbarrowing bedding chip into a backyard with barely a word exchanged. But beyond the work, Kevin was a true friend. He was generally quiet and liked to keep to himself, but once you got to know him it was a different story. We could talk for hours, and it was then I learnt what an incredibly kind, caring and genuine person Kevin was. Kevin was as steady as they come, reliable, and hardworking. He didn’t need to shout to be heard; his actions spoke for him. And his words, though often few, always hit home. Thank you, Kevin, for everything. For the lessons, the laughs, and for being a true friend. Rest easy, my friend. You’ve earned it.

Kev, this is a huge shock to read! You were a great friend to my dad who hopefully you have met up there and having a beer together. You kept your promise to him that you would keep an eye on us after his passing. My deepest sympathy to his family who he always spoke foundly of when he visited. RIP Kev.
