For Va: I have so many memories of us growing up as East Petrie gangsters (EPG), playing all day and into the night, sometimes getting the hiding for coming home late because we got carried away lol. Roller blading up to super fresh from Petrie, you me and lawe thought we were so cool blading up there to buy snacks and come back lol. You were the big sister we never had, always having our backs and ready to lend an ear/hand whenever we needed it. I was the worry wart of our group but I’d follow you and lawe into whatever you two were planning coz I knew it would be ok in the end. Your home was always open to the EPG gang to share whatever little and simple food you had. The meal was so simple but it came from a place of love, you always made us feel welcome like we were a part of the family. Anyone who remembers you, remembers your big heart and your huge smile because you wore both, all the time. Even throughout your illness and silent battles that only you knew about, you showed us what true strength, faith and resilience looked like. You continued to praise God through the hardest times, again with that big smile . You always checked in on us despite all that you were going through, reminding us to always make memories with our families, to be good servants of God, wives to our husbands and mothers to our children. I’m heartbroken that you’re gone but I find peace in knowing you are now renewed in body and spirit, free from pain and reunited with those gone before you. Rest in peace my sister, may the Angles guide you home ❤️. #East Petrie for life

Bea

Continued tribute: Above all, Va was an amazing and loving mother. Her children meant the world to her, and she was so proud of them. She would often send videos to our Viber chat with my cousin Bea, sharing the little milestones—whether it was Tehilah doing the Māori dance and winning a prize, or Judah playing the drums or singing at home. She even made TikTok videos with her kids—she was such a cool mum! Watching those videos, I saw not just an incredible mother but my childhood best friend from Petrie Rd, full of life, joy, and love. Va, I miss you so much. One of your last messages to us was, Isa Petrie, will I ever see it again? I’m so glad Bea sent you those photos of Petrie Rd, looking out to the sea and the street we grew up on, one last time before you left us. Rest in Peace my beautiful sister Va. East Petrie for Life 😭😭😭

For my beautiful sister Va, There’s a saying that cousins are your first best friends, and for me, Va was one of my very first. The memories I have with her are countless, but one that always stands out is when we practiced a dance under her house for the Hibiscus Festival. We never made it to the festival, but that didn’t stop us from giving it our all. We danced our hearts out to a Janet Jackson song, creating moves as we went, while our sister Beatrice watched and laughed. Va had a way of bringing so much energy into everything she did. She was an incredible dancer, always full of passion and dedication, and that was just who she was—whether it was dance, art, or school, she put her whole heart into everything. Our favorite song was Notorious Thugs by Notorious B.I.G featuring Bone Thugs-N-Harmony. We would rap to it, knowing every lyric, and feeling like we were living in our own music video. I remember starting high school, and Va, being older, came to pick me up from home on that first day to catch the school bus together. She was like a big sister to me, always making me feel at ease no matter how new or intimidating life got. Va was the real deal—a brave warrior who you could always count on. She had your back and would be there for you without question. She filled every room with laughter, and I’ll never forget how we’d laugh so hard we’d be on the verge of tears. I remember when she got selected to join Fiji Airways as cabin crew. She would practice serving us at the dining room table at her house, turning even simple moments into something fun and unforgettable. One of the most important things Va taught me was gratitude. Even through her battle with cancer, she remained thankful, patient, and kind. Her unwavering faith was something I admired so much—she always leaned on God, even when things were hard to understand. In her pain, she still gave thanks.

Va, you are and always will be an inspiration. Your unwavering faith in the Lord, your smile in the midst of your struggles and your honesty will be remembered... Thank you for your friendship.... sorry we never got to do that outing we had planned... Rest in Peace my friend, your physical sufferings are over... until we meet again... May your beautiful children continue to shine their lights for Jesus as you taught them to. Never forgotten!

To the kid who made us ride our bikes down Ragg Ave with no brakes on, who was always up for adventures and made my childhood absolute fun, thank you Va. Petrie Road kids turned out great and brilliant because of you! Will cherish the memories, the laughs, and the mischiefs my friend. And more importantly, that you fought right til the end. While it breaks my heart we didn’t get to see the healing this side of eternity, I know you are rejoicing in the arms of the Saviour that you truly loved. The One who has made you wholesome and healed. No more pain Va… 💛 Moce mada vakalailai Peggy #PetrieRoadKidsForLife

As we farewell you today in body, it is not easy for me to say goodbye to you but I know that you need your rest and you have lived a life full of love and compassion. I am grateful to God for allowing us to crosspaths and known each other since teens. You were always around at Petrie Road whenever I come over to see Lavenia..it was like my second home and I will never forget how you would always be so warm and welcoming, sometimes we'd have to hide from you because you were always inquisitive and we didn't want to be bad role models lol. Leading up to my diagnosis, I turned to you and Tima Bakani (RIP 🕊) for advise as Lavenia had shared with me and I thank God for all your words of encouragement, tears from personal sharing, jokes, prayers and for simply just being you was enough knowledge of how to cope with life. Last year you came to visit my children and I when we were at Joana and Petero's place and that was indeed the highlight of our trip as we picked up from where we left off like almost 3 decades ago and we had so much fun even though you were struggling to stay strong. You sent our photo to Salote just to try and get her over for a good laugh. This is how I will remember You my dear sister in Christ. Na yalomu e kauti keimami vata kece mai ❤🕊 I would like to thank the Yaranamua Family, Ratu and all the siblings especially Lavenia for sharing your beautiful daughter and sister with me 😥❤ Thank you as well to her beloved husband Lincoln and her adorable children for loving her till the end ❤❤❤ May God's peace be with us all and we shall meet again till the trumpet sounds on that glorious morning Vaseva 🕊🙏❤
