I knew Chris when he lived in brighton and enjoyed many sunday afternoons listening to a local jazz band in a pub called the King and Queen. He loved travelling and was always going off somewhere on his bike
My precious memories of my brother always sending foreign.dolls whatever destinations he was and art books and a Xmas hamper for mum.and myself also piggy back if we were walking anywhere and his mad humour never forgot xx
Christopher was a cousin 18 months older than me. When in our twenties he visited my home city of Bristol, and I showed him round some of the historic parts of the city, before having a drink in a pub. Much later in the seventies, he cycled to where Melvyn and I lived near Camberley in Surrey. He knew he could cycle on several miles across heathland towards Bracknell, having studied the map more than we had at that time ! In April 2008 Chris visited us again for lunch and a canal walk. This was when we invited family members for a get together to meet Chris, and were sad that he left UK before the party took place. In recent years Chris rang for a chat every few months and I enjoyed hearing his childhood memories of watching planes taking part in the Battle of Britain in the south east of England. Much love to Phillip, Mandy, and families, and friends of Chris in NZ. Mary and Melvyn
Chris was very good at ringing his UK cousins and exchanging news. He also sent a lovely book of photographs of NZ and regular Christmas cards. When we were teenagers Chris and his family came to stay with our family one Christmas at Dundry in Somerset. We have a lovely photograph of the big family group. Happy memories. Also, we met him at least three times when he came back to UK. On one of these trips he cycled from Sussex to Bristol to visit my mother and me. On this occasion I remember walking across the Downs with him and Auntie Marjorie even recalling one of our topics of conversation. On another visit some of the cousins decided to arrange a get-together so we could have a reunion in his honour. However, he was such a private person that when he heard of the plans he rapidly returned to NZ. We sadly held the party without him. We send our love and sympathy to Phillip, Mandy and their families and friends. Cousin Stephie and Phil
Chris was very good at ringing his UK cousins and having a catch-up. We saw him on at least three occasions when he came back to UK - and once he cycled from Sussex to Bristol to visit my mother and me. I walked across the Downs with him and Auntie Marjorie and still remember one of our topics of conversation. During one of his visits to UK some of the cousins arranged a get-together to meet up with him again. However, he was such a private person that when he heard of the plans he decided to go back to NZ rather suddenly so the party went ahead without him. One year when we were teenagers Chris and his family spent Christmas with us at Dundry. Happy memories. We send our love and sympathy to Phillip, Mandy and their families. Stephie and Phil xx
So glad that we visited Chris in February this year & connected him with his sister by video message We also met him early in 2020 for the first time in about 50 years. He was then very active able to show us some sites in Auckland. Much love from his paternal cousin Trish xx
