Tributes

How very sad we are to hear of Jean’s passing. She is so very loved & missed by us all.  Jean has always been very dear to me & I am grateful for all the time we spent together over the years. Whether here in the UK or during the wonderful trips we have had to NZ. Jean was always so welcoming & caring - from my first visit at age 13 to the multiple visits we have made with our boys. The first of which was only a few weeks after she lost our lovely Uncle Pete. Somehow the 11500 miles between us doesn’t seem to far because of her gift of bringing everyone together. We are thinking of all our Kiwi family at this difficult time & whilst we are sorry we cannot be with you in person we tuned in & thought how lovely the ceremony was. You certainly did her proud. It was lovely to see Sean, Stephen, Neil & Bryan waving at the camera & of course we wished we could have been with you all for the remainder of the day. Sending much love & hugs from the UK (Sutton Coldfield). Sweet dreams my dearest Auntie Jean. You will always remain with great love & affection in our memory & in our heart. My thoughts are with the family and extended family at this time. So many beautiful memories shared today in the eulogies. Aunty Jean, I remember when the boys drained the toilet with your new Dyson vacuum cleaner; you arriving in Australia to discover your handbag was left at home and you had no passport to enter Australia; I renamed you Aunty Gin which you found hilarious, and much to your amusement. So many fun times and memories we have shared. You were a lover of the arts - the musicals, artists, exhibitions your list was endless. To the Roach boys, my dear friend Kim and your families, thinking of you all after the passing of quite a remarkable lady, wife, teacher, Mother in Law and friend to many.

Jean was my teacher when she first arrived in NZ. She became my friend later when our boys were growing up. Rest in Peace Jean.

Jean was much older than me and she really took me under her wing in my childhood as Mom was so busy working and had some health problems in those days. It was very hard when she went to New Zealand - I missed her so. We wrote those blue air mail letters to each other - how communication has improved since then! Even more sad was that she would not be comming home after 3 years. No matter she found a wonderful life in Opunake and bought much to the community. She will be missed so much by many. A great full life Jean well done.

Thank you for the wonderful memories, Aunty Jean. A treasured Aunt who we always knew was in our corner, because we were family. Now resting with Uncle Pete. Thanks, boys, for a wonderful service, I loved your reflections, and laughter, a great tonic. I will always remember Aunty Jean with great fondness. Love from Leigh (aka Phoebe) and family xx

Greetings and sympathetic thoughts to the Roach family at the death of Jean. I had the pleasure of two overseas trips with Jean. There is no doubt she was an intrepid traveller always up for an interesting side trip and a gin - make it a double!- and you should have seen our item “We are the girls from down on the farm” on the last night concert. I always felt she suffered from not having daughters- who keep one in line - and my sympathy goes out to her daughters-in-law. She was a Mother and Grandmother of strength and determination and we shall miss her. Helen Lloyd
