Well before the above paragraph...... The larican who loved beating the police (so he says) on his Triumph motorcycle flying between Auckland and the Mount who would eventually get a new, shiny red Honda motorcycle every year. He loved red bikes and cars. Apparently he got spotted a few times scrapping the knee like Freddie Spencer. Living in Arataki, riding a Triumph, getting chased by police, hmmmm.... Sounds like gang activity. Oh no! "That was just what you did back then". Yeah, sure Dad! His house was definitely his castle. The front lawn over the years would tell you that. Often looking like a golf green. Oh he played golf too! Fixing anything and everything was also one of his specialties. Often to mums annoyance when projects were left unfinished for months, or even years! " we'll go buy another". "No I'll fix it". The NZ number 8 wire mentality . Even to the very end he was trying to fix things. You name it, he would fix it or at least give it a go. Even products modern consumers consider throw away items were fixed. He was a "greeny" before his time and he didn't even know it. I could go on and on but I won't.... Like the time his mates left him on a rock in the ocean after a huge shark swam past him. "Swim over you softy" they told him , so he swam out to the boat, at 100 miles an hour. Later that day, they got caught out by the same shark. Dad was in the boat this time, made them the same offer, but a little farther out from the rock. "Swim over you softies". Too many things to list, so this will do. You lived a good innings Dad. The later years were tough. But all in all you did ok. Proud of you. Love David.
