DUFFY, Wayne Maurice

Passed away peacefully at Waipuna Hospice on 01 November 2024. In his 65th year. Much loved husband of Jan. Loved son of the late Ron and Jean Duffy. Respected brother in-law of Greg and Karen Gray, Uncle ‘Duff’ to Thomas, Simon and Alexander. Wayne will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

Wayne’s love for fishing taught him two of life’s true lessons, persistence and patience.

A service to celebrate and remember Wayne will be held at Legacy Tauranga, 383 Pyes Pa Road, Tauranga on Thursday, 7 November 2024 at 10.30am, followed by private cremation. In lieu of flowers, donations to Waipuna Hospice would be appreciated. Please use the button below to make a donation.

Tributes

Dear Jan and friends of Duffy - thanks for the opportunity to leave a note - I always enjoyed listening to the stories of 'Duffy', Jan, Mum and Dad getting up to mischief 'back in the day' (one about a particular 'act' on the bridge after a night you all had out at the Horseshoe while walking back to a flat! - the stories were always more enjoyable over a many cold drinks in the shed at Liverpool Street. One time Dad, Duffy, Ben, Dan and I went on a South Wairarapa coast tour for an afternoon followed by a pub crawl back to Masterton - a cracker summers day and a great memory. Big hugs to you Jan and thanks to Legacy for what was an incredibly professional 'live stream' service so those of us who couldn't be there on the day could 'feel like we were there in person'. xoxo Sam.

Dear Jan, Sorry I couldn't be there to farewell Wayneo in person - it was a fitting farewell, no fuss, just as he would have wanted. Always enjoyed when you both came back down to Masterton to visit - drinks in the shed, great banter, lots of laughs, excellent company, sometimes a wee boogie xo Lots of love, Susan.

Jan , friends and family ,sorry i cannot be there . Wayne aka the cookie bear , Flash Gordon and I became friends thru our passion for motorcycles , that didn't kill us . Later we developed a passion for fishing . Time stood still when i heard Waynes voice just days before he left us , took me right back to 1977 . we 3 long haired apprentices outside the yamaha shop . Along the way we became friends with some good people , except that bloke who took a leak my fuel tank . Got to cruise in some classic wheels , Marks mums Imp on a sunday , smoking king eddies and drinking ouzo . You can ride on the lawn now Wayne , do some donuts like we used to in the mud at the gravel pits . Cheers to a bloke i trusted and enjoyed spending the formative years of my life with.
