Tribute to Alan Hibbard As Marie’s sister, I was lucky to have Alan as not only a brother-in-law but also a true friend. I always had a soft spot for him. I admired his unwavering commitment to his family. He was determined to give them stability and security, and he worked hard to make sure they were financially strong. That determination was part of what made him who he was. Of course, Alan also knew how to enjoy life. He loved his boat and treasured the time he spent at Pauanui Beach. That holiday home was his place of solace after a hard week in the office, and he cherished every chance he got to escape there. Alan also had a mischievous side. I’ll never forget the time Marie and I went away for a few days, leaving him in charge of the kids. Alan’s version of “coping” was to serve every meal on disposable plates with plastic cutlery — his clever way of avoiding the washing up. He even insisted the kids sleep in sleeping bags so there’d be no beds to make in the mornings! It was classic Alan: practical, funny, and just a little bit cheeky. What I’ll always remember most is how friendly he was, and how he always made time to make people feel welcome. Being around him was easy — he had a way of making you feel at home. Finally, I want to thank Kim for being by Marie’s side during this sad time and for giving her the strength she needs. Alan will be deeply missed, but we’ll remember him with love, admiration, and more than a few smiles. With Love and Sadness, Julie & Family

My sincerest sympathy to Marie and family. I have many lovely memories of when we were children. I used to stay with Aunty Mary and Uncle Jeff for many holidays, we had lots of fun and it was a real novelty for me being in town. Janice (Abbott)

To Marie, Kim and Michael, my deepest sympathy and condolences go out to you all. I am very sad to hear of Allen's passing. I have worked under his management for many years at IAG and he was truly a great manager and leader, very caring and kind and his generosity also touched the hearts of the the children he had donated to at christmas times. Through Allen, I was able to provide furnitures and household furnishings for the families just arrived from Samoa and much needed support. These are the memories of a great man and an inspiration to many that have known him. On the workfront and having worked with Allen for a long time, I am proud to say Allen has trained many leaders and company managers throughout his journey at IAG. I have witnessed young men leave our Branch on promotion and management roles. I am sorry I cannot be there to say goodbye. I hope the blessings of the Almighty God be with you Marie and family.

A true gentleman with a calm, kind demeanor is the way I would describe the beautiful human being that Allen was. His passion for life was infectious and his love for those he cared about was unmistakeable. If the world had more men like Allen, it would be a much kinder world to live in. Our deepest condolences to the family and may you always remember the many happy times you had with Allen, he will live on in our memories . All our love, Darren, Jacs and the boys.
