Alex you were a pleasure to work with during our time at 5 Sqn and always pipped me when we went 10 pin bowling. May you rest in peace and you will be missed
My sincere condolences to Alex's parents and family, to his numerous friends and his work colleagues. As a friend of Stephen (mc at the funeral service) and Amélie, I had the pleasure of meeting the kind, bright, industrious, and intelligent (and much more) Alex on many occasions. And today I learned more about his life, which he lived to the full. He shall be missed by many and remembered with fond memories by all of those who knew him. May he rest in peace.
Your presence in my life has been nothing short of a gift. From the day we joined the military together, through serving on P3s, to staying close all these years, you’ve been a constant source of joy, wisdom, and unwavering support. I loved our board game nights—not just for the games but for your sharp intelligence and infectious delight in bringing people together. You were always there for me—through thick and thin, standing by me during life’s toughest moments. Whether it was Warbirds, fancy dinners with our ever-growing group of friends, museum visits, travel adventures, or Beervana, you turned every experience into something memorable. You didn’t just show up for me; you showed up for everyone I cared about, even when I wasn’t around. You lifted us all up with your kindness, generosity, and unshakable positivity. You challenged me to be my best self, inspiring me in ways I didn’t even realize at the time. We could talk about anything and everything—or just sit in comfortable silence, staring out over the trees from your apartment, sharing a moment of peace. Through our adventures, I learned so much about New Zealand—its landscapes, history, and culture—all through your eyes. I admired your photography and the way you brought beauty to life. I loved how you shared life’s simple joys, from a burger recipe you perfected to stories about fascinating people you met at bowling. I miss our phone calls and the endless conversations about anything and everything. I still have so much I want to share with you. Thank you, Alex, for being there for me. You helped me with my studies, moving houses, and navigating life’s challenges. I’ll always remember the thoughtful ways you showed your love. Your passion for life was contagious, your friendship transformative, and your heart immeasurable. You weren’t just a friend; you were family. Alex, thank you for everything. I am endlessly grateful for the years we shared and the impact you had on my life. Photo by Alex Daley
I grieve for you, for your loss. For our loss. I keep coming back to loving kindness. To me, that's who you were. Kind in thought and word and intent. Generous in your time and in your heart. Dry in your humour. Curious in life. What shone through, Was your beautiful soul. So I grieve for you, for your loss. For our loss… Or is it our gain? With such little time, We got to share it with you? I will cherish our memories, With a smile and a giggle, For all that you were, It was wonderful. You will live in my heart, Always. Heartbroken to hear of Alex’s passing. From meeting him initially in Peru in 2015 our paths crossed many times across many different continents. Alex was a great travel guide and host to me in both London in 2017 and New Zealand in early 2020. We also explored Italy in 2016 and Sydney Australia together in 2018. Last summer Alex did the ultimate around the world trip and I was able to return the favour hosting him for 5 days in Nova Scotia, Canada. His memory will stay alive with all the beautiful photos he took of our travels over the years and of my dog last summer. Rebecca Hart
