I knew Roy when we both were young in Fiji. He was 3 years younger than me. His father Bill was crew on an royal NZ Air Force flying boat that made an epic and perilous journey from Singapore to Suva early in WW2. There he met our parent’s good friend Joan. They were a great couple. Our families and his met up again in the late 1950s when we moved to Auckland from Fiji. I lost touch later. He made Bill and Joan proud of him as no doubt his sisters did. My deepest sympathy to you all. Remembering Roy for his endless patience, kindnesses and hospitality over many years, both to me in early and latter years and especially to Peter and I as a couple. My grateful thanks to the Dorothy and Roy team .A long and enduring partnership. Roy was always a reliable resourceful source of knowledge and that wonderful home he designed and built stands testament to his meticulous eye for detail and style. Travel to NZ will never be the same with this sudden loss of a lovely gentle man. A true friend. An inspiration to all that age never precludes enjoyment of pursuing the activities you love and ceaseless caring for others . Thinking of all the family as you share precious moments of Roy . With much love, Elaine (Lainey)

I knew Roy for all of the more than 22 years I worked for Works Consultancy Services and then Opus, he was a good man, a kind man, a very skilled professional who worked diligently alongside his colleagues and would help anyone. He had a ready smile, a great sense of humour and I can see him smiling now in my mind's eye as my abiding memory of him. He will be missed by all who knew him, he was one of the best. A great loss to family and friends.
