Uncle Frank was a true gentleman, possessing a charm that left a lasting impression on me. His significance in my life is remembered tenderly. I fondly remember the times he invited me on several of his work-related trips around the mid-South Island region. As a child, I relished the journey, captivated by the landscape and Uncle Frank's delightful company. Visiting Miriam and Frank’s home was a glimpse into a world of refined elegance—an experience unlike any other as a child. The quiet luxury of the Anniversary glass dome turning clock and the subtle air of sophistication left a strong impression. I appreciated every detail of their hospitality. I was always inspired by Uncle Frank’s unwavering dedication to the community, particularly through his work with the Cancer Council and Hospice. His influence lingered in my thoughts during my time as a nurse aide at St. Mary's Hospice and during my studies in cancer radiation therapy—subjects that remain dear to me. The arts, especially theatre and choir, played a significant role in Aunty Miriam and Uncle Frank's lives in Christchurch. I remember how much joy these gave them, their lives brimming with like-minded friends and activities. Aunty Miriam’s bright eyes would light up as she shared their upcoming plans. Uncle Frank had a genuine interest in our family. He met my husband, Murray, and took a keen interest in him. Murray held him in high regard, charmingly fond of his signature white goatee and beret. Despite my heartfelt intentions to travel from Australia, the logistical challenges, as Judy will understand, prevent me from attending this profoundly significant occasion to bid farewell to my dear Uncle Frank. May he rest in peace. With love, Tracy and family
Our organization was very fortunate to benefit from Frank's energy, enthusiasm and wisdom in the early days of its creation as a stand alone community hospice service. Frank held a number of roles supporting our development through Friends of the Taranaki Hospitals Society, joined our second steering committee and then became a trustee of the first Hospice Taranaki Foundation. Franks expertise in administration and finance over the late 1980s and across the 1990s was a key part of helping form what our service has become today. We extend our sympathies to the Lowry family at this sad time. Best wishes Paul Lamb Chief Executive Te Kahu Pairuri Hospice Taranaki
