I met Kingsley in 1952 at Wellington Teachers College and we shared a room at the Central Baptist Hostel. Friendship continued when we lived in Palmerston North. We enjoyed listening to classical music. Kingsley broadened his tastes by hearing my records of modern Americans such as Copeland while he introduced me to John Tavener and Monteverdi. When I met the woman I fell in love with, the first person I told was Kingsley. In 1962, he was our best man. Margaret and I were delighted when Kingsley and Elizabeth married. Elizabeth a talented artist - Kingsley showed he had talents too with his stained glass works. Earlier this year I received a call from Kingsley when he was in Kenepuru Hospital. My several visits to ward 7 were mutually enjoyable. Forgive the cliche, but I will miss my friend.
I'm sorry to miss his memorial service, but at 92 | feel rather too far away in Auckland to make the trip in person. Ursula & I were so pleased when Kingsley married my sister Elizabeth. And we know they enjoyed a special & probably unique marriage. We saw a lot of each other as we both lived in Palmerston North for a number of years. He was a man of integrity & faith - & both thoughtful & kind too. Our world will be the poorer without him. And now that he has moved on from this earthly life I will be one of those who will miss him greatly.
