Tributes

Maureen and I met in 1978 at a teacher-do in a downtown Wellington hotel. I was in NZ for a Fulbright teacher exchange program. My assignment was at South Wellington Intermediate. During that year ‘78-‘79 Maureen and I became fast friends. I visited with her 3 more times over the decades, and she came to VA-USA 2 times. Through the years we called, wrote, messaged, FaceTimed and Skyped many times. When I visited we sometimes travelled together by car or train for her to show me different wonderments of NZ. She was the most generous, caring and loving person I have ever known. She shared that generosity and love with my children. She hosted my son Ted to a visit to her home in NZ when he was on a break from his time at Hillsong Collage in Sydney, Australia, and, during my last visit to NZ in 2018, she hosted me and my daughter, Julianna to a visit, and thrilled and trusted Julianna by allowing her to drive her car to Pukekari Park one beautiful morning! I have uncountable memories of our visits and cherish the many times we talked, laughed, and sang together. I will miss her on this earth but will sing with her again accompanied by a choir of angels in heaven one day.

Mrs Woodmore was a great teacher, strict but fair. I also remember she supported taha Maori at Island Bay Primary, and invited the late Keri Kaa to speak to our class. She invited our class to her lovely home overlooking Lyall Bay in Welly. We meet her husband, Bill. What a great age you reached Mrs Woodmore! Now at rest.

An amazing, generous and beautiful Aunty. I feel extremely fortunate to have had you so long. My only wish is that it could be longer. A teacher and a beautiful person in every sense. I love you and will miss you so very much.
