Jo, I'm so saddened that you are no longer with us. I will always remember your welcoming, kind and beautiful nature. The last time I had the privilege of spending time with you, it was a hot summer day when we were all visiting at a family holiday home in Mount Maunganui with Sharon and Jack. We had a lovely afternoon of exchanging stories, sharing memories, collecting sea shells and swimming in the ocean. I will cherish that moment always. I'm eternally grateful to have known you over the years, and I'll never forget your love and care for me. My condolences to all who loved you dearly, you will be missed. Rest in peace. Sincerely, Jade Van Eeden

Ka aroha ki te whānau pani. Jo was a dedicated nursing lecturer for many years. She worked alongside my mum Janet in supporting the start up and success of Tihei Mauri Ora and was always loving and kind to both tauira and colleagues. She was also a memorable kaiako for my own nursing studies. A staunch advocate for Hauora Māori. Rest in eternal love Jo x

Jo was a big promoter and supporter of breastfeeding and the organisations that helped breastfeeding mothers and babies. She was proactive with organising HEHA breastfeeding group of health professionals.... Community dietician, Plunket, Public Health. Maori Health from Te Whatu Ora Waikato. She was very encouraging of our work here at Waikato DHB for the Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative and always gave personal encouragement and was willing to help with all our documents and help with poster displays for World Breastfeeding week. She rallied the media team and hospital photographers to upgrade our resources with lovely photos and articles to inform and inspire. Just recently she helped lobby about a breach of the International Code of Marketing of Breastmilk Substitutes. She was organised and reliable and we appreciated these qualities She was always stylishly dressed and looked youthful. JO WILL BE MISSED BY US. Jo - so many years we have worked together - for the wellbeing of our whānau and hāpori. I always found you to be honest, dedicated and passionate about your work and how you did it. You were also a lovely kind soul, and I was so looking forward to us catching up when you travelled north next. You spoke of retiring soon and I'm sad that you didn't get a chance to enjoy the life that might have brought. Your highlight more recently in delivering FASD training was a big step up for you, even though you have been working to promote awareness and action on this disorder for many years. Thanks to you, many will be leading better lives - and that in itself is a great legacy. Moe mai rā.

Jo, we are going to miss you more than you know. You will forever hold a special place in our hearts. We will miss our conversations about all things nursing, your wisdom, your guidance, your dedication, your pride in our profession, your kindness, your authenticity and your tenacity. You have been a mentor, a confidante and a good friend to us both, always here for us when we needed you and vice versa. It was an honour to be your friend and colleague. The world was a better place having you here with us. Our thoughts are with your loved ones at this time.

This is the second day I have sat at my desk and glanced over to your space but instead of you there is a bunch of flowers in your memory. We’ve known each other for over 16 years but only in the last 4 years have we spent more time actually working together and getting to know one another. You have always been gracious, and meticulous in all you have done as well as supportive to all around you. You have been a staunch advocate for our work and an equally staunch friend. I will miss our lunch dates where we would take each other away from the office to put the world to right and share stories of our families. My sincere condolences to your family, I will miss you Jo

I'm going to miss you Jo. You touched so many people without realizing it. Words will never be enough to thank you for your friendship and support over the last few years. Always so helpful and kind to all and it was greatly appreciative within our Hamilton FASD group. You made such an impact without knowing the many people your kindness and mahi touched, supporting so many. The Waikaio FASD community will miss you, especially me personally. You will be missed and always have a special place in my heart. My deepest condolences to Jo's family and friends. So sorry I can’t attend in person but will be watching the life stream. Very sad to hear of this. Jo was such a kind support person in the area of FASD awareness. She really cared and understood the complexity of this disorder and the harms of alcohol. I so enjoyed seeing her a few weeks ago in Tāmaki at the launch of the Futures Within campaign. She will be missed. Thank you Jo for being you. Moe mai ra e hoa.

OH what devastating news. My condolences on behalf of FASD-CAN for all the support that Jo gave. She was always so gracious and went out of her way to be helpful and kind. She rang me just before Christmas to pass on some kind words. We will miss her in the FASD community but are very grateful for all that she did. Someone who leaves the world a better place by her efforts.

Jo - I'm going to miss you!!! For your work and your friendship. Jo, you've been so key in this area, spreading the message of awareness and hope in the mahi of FASD. I have personally been so appreciative of your support. You've made significant efforts in several projects over these last few years, coming up with ideas and covering off the detail to come make sure that projects fly. Jo – I'm stunned, but you obviously needed to go. Now was your time, your work is done. I’m more than grateful that our paths have crossed and that we have been able to share this difficult path together, and I think of all those who will have benefited from your hard work and passionate efforts. Moe mai moe mai moe mai ra e hoa.

Jo.. OMG! I was just thinking of you today while doing my make up. You bought a contour in the wrong colour and gave it to me. I use it all the time and each time I think of you and your gracious personality. You always made me feel like I was important and loved and offered support when I needed it. You will be missed. Love to Charles and I'll see you tomorrow

We worked closely with Jo. One of Jo's professional priorities in recent times was raising the priority of and supporting people with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) in the community. There was only ever a small network of amazing people working in this space in Aotearoa, and Jo made such an impact working in this area. Jo will be missed - but I wanted to say how much of a difference Jo made through her work. Jo always showed up, worked hard and did her part on the mahi, and I am proud to have known her. We will miss Jo, but we are all better off for having known her. My deepest condolences to Jo's family and friends. Nga mihi nui Andrew Galloway
