Tributes

I have known Gordon for over 40 years from when we both worked in the Post Office and later in Telcom. Although we worked in different cities we developed a close working relationship and we have kept in touch since our retirements with frequent catch ups and phone calls reminiscing about the past etc. It has been a pleasure knowing Gordon and I will miss you. Heartfelt condolences to Ellen and their son Richard and family. Rest easy my friend David and Maree Stevens

I met Gordon at the Middle Districts Lions Club. When I joined, I learned ver quickly of Gordon's interest in supporting the local SPCA, of his work for many years in our Welfare Committee and his work behind the scenes for the Jimmy Carter Quiz. Through the latter, I had a close relationship with Gordon as co-convenors of the quiz. He always was there, teaching me the ropes and reminding me of all the activities that needed attention during the preparation of the quiz. I found it interesting that both Gordon and President Jimmy Carter passed on the same week. Two great men lost. I envision Gordon catching up with Jimmy Carter up there and telling him all about the quiz! Rest in peace, Gordon. Your service to the community is done.

I met Gordon many years ago through Lions, he was in Middle Districts, and I was in Rose City. We met at various Lions funtions/projects. Then some years later Gordon who was at that time, President of the Palmerston North branch of the Government Superanuation Scheme (not to be confused with the National Superanuation) He asked me to be his Secretary/Treasurer, a job I was happy to do. Gordon was always most supportive of my work, particularly in the first few months when I was very new to the GSA, in fact had not known anything about it. I would like to convey my condolences to Ellen and Gordons family. He will be missed.
