Loving husband of Cicely, and wonderful dad, grandad, brother, and uncle to all his family.
Farmer, family man, and a gentleman to the end, he was one of a kind.

I have so many lovely memories of sitting at the diningroom-table groaning under a feast Cicely prepared , with Rudie telling stories about South Africa, Namibia - his heartland - speaking Afrikaans fluently - after 58 years. The long, long telephone conversations we’ve had reminiscing in Afrikaans after I entered the family. He became my big Brother - Boeta , we called him. What a gentleman he was, well-mannered and always neatly dressed He stopped writing his memoir when his memory started going and that was hard for him . We loved him : Frank because Boeta held him on his lap when driving the bakkie on the farm , pretending Frankie was driving and I because we shared a love of books and poetry and had a special bond. We’ve missed you ever since you got ill, Boeta. All will be well now for you again. Much love. Frank & Lindie
was neat to have known and spent time with you I remember the big long kitchen table that we used to sit at. Thanks for all the memories
Thank you for making the livestream available. I have such good memories of sitting around tables with delicious food that Cicely made and Rudie telling stories for hours. The last couple of visits, I enjoyed his pride and care for his worm farm in the kitchen, and the birds he was feeding. He was always kind and caring in the world.
Uncle Rudie has a special place in our hearts. Having a family connection whilst new in Tauranga meant so much to us both. Regular visits with both Uncle Rudi and Aunty Cecily always were filled warm hospitality. Thankyou for many special years. Richard & Bernie
Rest In Peace Rudi. I’ve so enjoyed your’s and Cicely’s friendship over the years. Love to your family. Anne
Sorry for the loss of a great family man. We have lots of great memory's way back from the farm, always wanting to check out the russian doll, to playing on the trampoline outside, and the crazy driveway. More memories from local Tepuke to visiting, fixing computers and getting fruit from the trees. Sending out love and prayers to all the family
To Rudi's family Very sorry to hear of Rudi dying. You will miss him as he' s gone so soon after Cicely Please accept my sympathy as I 'm unable to attend his funeral today Heather Judge
In our family, U.Rudie will be remembered as THE champion storyteller. He and A. Cicely spent the most wonderful three weeks with us, a few years ago. He told stories from dawn to dusk without repeating himself once! We especially refer to "The Elephant Story"... if anyone has a written copy, we would truly value it! The space he occupied in our hearts was a big one! We'll miss him dearly. Self-less, generous, funny, tender... his love for A.Cicely ... are attributes of his character that will live on in our memories of him. What an honour it is to have known him. We'll miss him dearly.
Deepest Sympathy Eric , Keith & family . Sorry will be unable to attend the service as away at present . Nice that Cicely & Rudie are together again . Sincere thoughts , Parry & Frances
Rudie was a wonderful big brother who showed me who Santa Clause is….. he was wearing Mom’s red coat and wellies! He also taught me how to drive ….. around the hay bales in a newly baled field. As a family we shared so many amazing adventures! Eileen
