When Revs long time mate had some official proceedings to attend to, Revs offered to be there to support him. Revs had me regularly cutting his hair by then, as well as buying him shirts at the opshop and keeping his paperwork straight. I swear he used to wreck his shirts just so I'd bring him some more, and he'd have an excuse to stop for another coffee. Any way, This day, he asked for a haircut to be extra tidy for the official meetings he would attend. As usual he requested "business in the front and party in the back" I thought I'd better trim the raggedy edges off the back at least, but as I trimmed here, and there, and a little more, before you know it his scraggly long mullet looked more like a bob gone wrong. He viewed the back in a phone camera picture, and as he saw how it still looked remarkably un-business like, with only a little grimace he said " I think we'd best cut it all off." And so we did. Revs was the kind to forgive much, fuss little and even cut off his long hair for his friend in their time of need. A good man. I hope he's resting easy now, and I hope to see him and Casper on the other side one day.
Our friendship spanned 35 years and hundreds maybe thousands of cups of coffee . We’re rich in memories , of living life , from when my children were born till they married .Your place was a hub of hospitality which was a testament to all those you have helped over the years. Kevin , I will miss your steadfast friendship.
I will never forget the two presents you brought me a toy doll that I named pinky, and The Tooth Fairy book for my 6th birthday. When you did call in to visit the chats were about cars, trucks and the Norton motor bike. I would make you a cup of tea with only half a teaspoon of sugar and you would say “did you put the sugar in” three heaped teaspoons then went in! We visited a couple of times at your property. Bayleigh enjoyed sleeping in the carvan because it had spiders. I remember a road trip by car from your place to Hamilton…I think we broke the speed limit well and truely that day, trip didn’t take long at all there and back your driving was mighty fast. I have many lovely pictures of you which I will treasure forever. Rest in peace, xx.
This is a time to remember Kevin for who he was – like many people – kind, caring, generous, extremely hard working, with a self-taught way of regenerating vehicles and machinery. His first areas of work were water blasting, sand blasting, and painting agriculture machinery. He had great skills using a digger machine and after a great deal of time, energy and satisfaction, shaped his steep section into a house site, with driveway for entrance, later concreted. A house was built. After many years of living on site and working away from site, sometimes in great pain but continuing to carry on, on most occasions. Kevin, you were a hero to do so much. I helped as much as I could in the early stages with his property development and other projects. In later years I was unable to continue to help anymore but I still always cared. I did enjoy when you made the occasional visits and telephone calls. Many thanks to the hospital doctors and nurses who diagnosed his condition and cared for Kevin. Thanks also to the Hospice staff and his friends who helped Kevin in many ways. Kevin, you were amazing to sustain so much pain for many years. Much loved and always remembered by your mother and close family members. Rest in peace, free of pain.
