My deepest sympathy Dawne and family on the passing of a great guy. Woody and I met you on a European holiday in 2000. So much fun. I especially remember lunch on the Island of Murano in Venice. Hilarious! In 2003 Woody and I stayed with you in Masterton. Your hospitality was amazing. You wouldn't hear about us staying in the motorhome and insisted we stayed inside with you. I know I will always remember our times we spent together. RIP Mike!

Sorry we couldn;t be with you today. Having travelled a road somewhat parallel to Mike's it is so easy to recognise some of his great strengths. His courtesy,his smile,his delight at another's success are traits we all admire, but most of all his rapport with young people was outstanding. Having seen Mike at work with students at Taratahi and at secondary schools the way he kept their attention was great. Similarly the way he trained and led the students in the pens at Golden Shears was a real demonstration of leadership. We've all lost a big man, but have some of his lessons to carry.

Mike was an awesome teacher back in Taratahi. He loved what he did and would always take that extra time to make sure you understood the task and was safe about it. Aswel as his humour he made an awesome Tutor and helped a lot of kids like me at the time. R.I.P Mate
