Tributes

Dear Deane & family, we are Gordon's cousins (his Mum Ida was our mother Mahi's Aunt). We've only just found out today 17-1-2026 that Gordon passed a year ago and want to express our heartfelt condolences to you. We had less contact as the years went by but we all loved him to bits, he was a great guy and undoubtedly sorely missed. We've only met once Deane when you & Gordon came to Mum's place in Whangarei around 10 years ago, along with John & Jenny, Rewa & Roger. We had a lovely family time that day, with lots of laughs & reminiscing. David (lives in Queensland) & I (still in Whangarei with my new partner) are so surprised and shocked but we also have fond memories of Gordon to reflect on. I've included our mother & brother as I know they'd want to pay tribute to Gordon as well. He was a big help to me when Mum passed & I needed to find another place to live. I was so grateful to him for that as it made a difficult time more bearable. Anyway, sorry this message is so delayed but we only found out this morning from another of our cousins. Much love to you all.

Dearest Deane and Family, We are truly heartbroken and deeply shocked to hear of Gordon's passing. I had a dream about him just last night and reached out to Monique to be sent the sad news by reply message today. His friendship, his advice and guidance is something that will last me to my very own final days. It feels like yesterday when I was a teenager and wanting to be a salesman that Garry Keith introduced me to "Gords", at Kelly & Stewart Auto Electricians. When I picked up the car, Garry had already left, while we moved a few cars out of the way to get the one I was driving back to the yard, as I left, I dropped the clutch and smoked the tyres, thinking I was clever and drove the long way back to the yard, only to be met by Gords, who got there before me and who quickly told me if he ever saw me do that again he would tell Garry to fire me! He very quickly earned my respect and that was it, we were best of friends ever since. When I became an auctioneer, who did I go to for advice, I GAS I......... Gordon’s infectious kindness, patience, laughter and unwavering smile made him a truly special person—one who touched the lives of everyone he ever met. Dee, he is a man that will never leave my thoughts and we will miss him more than words can express. With all our love, Nicholas, Jodyann & Alexander Down Dubai, UAE. Rest in peace Gordon. Keep smiling brother.

Gordy, You called me boy from day one of our meeting as colleagues, it always felt like a term of affection and your actions always showed the same, even on the many times we disagreed. Thanks for always being keen for a laugh, to chat about rugby, tell me tie knot was crap and teach me about real estate. Personally you showed my what a great Dad is and I’ve benefited from a friendship with your number one son who displays many of your best character traits in spades. Love you mate. Thanks for making the world a better and brighter place. Aidan

Dearest Deane, We were so deeply shocked and saddened to hear of Gordon's passing. It only seems like yesterday that we enjoyed lunch and dinner in Brisbane together. As always, Gordan had a smile on his face and a genuine interest in us and our trivialities. He was such a warm and patient man who will be sadly missed by all who crossed his path. We were to blessed to be able to call him a 'friend' and our times together were always full of fun and laughter. We will always remember Gordon as a loving and devoted husband ,a proud and dedicated father and a very dear friend. We will miss him greatly. Our love to you Dee and your loving family. We love you. Rest in Peace Gordon, keep smiling. Paul & Cheree McDermott

Kia ora I just want to send my dearest regards to the whanau of Flash Gordon as we knew him at the gym. We would always korero in the hot pool or swimming pool, chew the fat as they say. Flash would always have time to catch up. He was always interested in what I was up to and he would tell me about the real estate business. A caring man whom I will miss.
