Tributes

Dearest David, you've been taken from your loved ones way too soon. We were brother and sister-in-law for 14 years. During those years, we had some fun times in Lincoln and in Lower Moutere. I'll always have fond memories of those years with you in my life. Rest in peace David. Warmest regards and deepest condolences to all the Wiltshire families.

To David’s family and Tim, Andrew, Jonathan, and their families. We were deeply saddened to hear of the sudden passing of your Father, brother and our dear friend, Dave. We felt it would be fitting to send this combined letter to express our heartfelt condolences and shared memories. Many of us have known Dave for years—some longer than others—and while it may have been some time since we last saw or spoke with him, the bonds we formed in those earlier years have made him a friend forever in our hearts. Our friendships with Dave and the Wiltshire family were built through the youth group at Opawa Baptist Church Christchurch, particularly during the late sixties and seventies. Dave’s vibrant personality often placed him at the front, leading times of worship with his enthusiastic singing—usually clad in his signature black leather-style jacket. It was very special to hear from Dave when he sent through a message which was read out to more than 100 of his “old friends” at the Opawa Baptist Youth Group reunion 15 months ago, along with his mugshot and a shot of his favourite tractor! Along with his trusted (Holden motor) Land Rover, which was used to ferry a few of us around town and through the off-road trails, we also have fond memories of Dave’s farming ventures around Christchurch, especially his foray into pig farming and the modest accommodations that came with it. He was always ready for a chat, with some of us offering a listening ear and, at times, our shoulders to lean on. Dave will be greatly missed, but we will always cherish the memories we shared. Please know that our thoughts and prayers are with you all during this difficult time. With our deepest sympathy, Phillip Haussmann, Malcolm Sparrow, Alan & Carolyn Currie, Dave Currie, Stuart Rosewall, Raewyn and Graham Henry, Jenny Hardwicke, Peter & Adrianne Simpson and others from the 60’s/70’s Youth Group
