Funeral service held at Morris & Morris Funerals, Whangarei
We didn't have as much time together as I would have liked but they were always good times. I cherish the memories.
Feisty, tenacious, clever and kind Aunty Elaine. What a gift you gave us all when through years of research you and Malcolm uncovered and recorded the histories and journeys or our ancestors. Those books you and he published took the skills of a detective and the patience of angels to write and research and those books will be your lasting legacy. But for me, so will the memories I have of your warm welcomes whenever we got together. From my earliest childhood when you were a young and beautiful new bride; through the decades and across the miles; through visits and phone calls, there were always laughs and stories and always, always your unending kindness. Now there will be no more toasties round your table or stories of the old days, but I won’t let you get away... In my memory I will find you, along with our beloved Malcie. I will see you in your garden and hear you laughing at one of Malcie’s wisecracks. I’ll see you and Malcie at Oakura on New Year’s Eve as the piper piped his way along the beach or picture you down at the town basin having a bowl of seafood chowder…. The pages of your history have all turned now Aunty Elaine… And for now, I’m sad, leafing through the ones I’ve known. But I know that won’t last. And one day, not too far away, I hope, I’ll be laughing at a memory that you gave to me, my dear, kind, sweet, little Aunty Elaine. Much love, Trish.
