Tributes

Karl, rest in peace. I "found" Karl in 2002 via the games platform "Zillions of Games". In that scene he was the super-hero, designing more than 640 games over the years. One time, he and Megan were in Jena (2006 ?) - and he gave a nice talk on tiling puzzles in my "Oberseminar" at Friedrich Schiller-University. His zillions realization of my board game "Galtoni" (in 2013) helped me to find a company manufactoring it (start in 2020). I want to write a long obituary text for the magazine "Operations Research News" (in German). If someone still has photos of Karl from the 1980's, please contact me at ingo.althoefer KARL uni-jena.de Of course "KARL" has to be substituted by the formal symbol. Thanks in advance, Ingo.

I still fondly remember 1989. We all wanted to emigrate to New Zealand or Australia. My roommate at the time knew Karl from Heidelberg. When we arrived in Auckland, Karl picked us up from the airport and we were allowed to live in his house. He helped us buy a car, showed us Auckland, the Kauri trees and much more. I got to know him as a very helpful and cosmopolitan person.

Ralf: We didn't have any close contact with Karl during our childhood and youth, but what I can remember is that Karl was always able to fix any technical problems! Whether it was a toy or a telephone ☎️ he always had two technical hands 🙌🏿 Reinhilde: Life ends, love does not. Karl will always live in our hearts.

My friend was a wonderful and fun-loving person. He always had an open ear. He will always be in my mind and heart to me and my wife Uschi.

Karl, the games player In the early 80s we brought the NEW GAMES from California to Germany and organized game festivals to make these games popular. Karl was an enthusiastic player at these first events together with his partner at the time. Over the course of his life, Karl invented many games, I think over 400. Playing as a social interaction between people combined with intellectual challenges was an important part of his life.
