Tributes

David was my oldest buddy in the navy. We joined BRNC Dartmouth on the same day in September 1964, and never looked back. We flew together on various squadrons, and shared accommodation whilst stationed at Lossiemouth. David was a wonderful best man and equally wonderful godffather to our eldest son. Adam. There are so many hilarious stories I could tell about our escapades as young pilots, and the long years of steadfast and loyal friendship so many of us were lucky enough to enjoyi in his inimicable company. Suffice it to say that we have lost a most dear friend, and outstanding aviator. God speed Bede.

A beautiful send-off for a gorgeous man. I have such wonderful memories of our time in Brunei and a few in NZ with David, Joy, Ricky & Tom. Rest in peace David, you should be very proud of your beautiful family. Sending all my love to you all. xxx

David or Bedes as we all knew him in the Navy, will be missed by so many people. He was somebody so very special, always so kind and happy with a smile on his face. I was so lucky to have had him as a great friend. We shared so many times together in our Navy days, so many treasured happy memories. How lucky in this modern age that I can be with you, and share the service with you from UK.Thank -you Richard. My love to Joy and all the family. Bless you David.

David was a great man — kind, and funny, often without even realizing it. I was lucky to live with David and Joy for nearly two years, and those days are some of my happiest memories. They made me feel truly at home. David always had the best stories. We’d sneak into the garage — him with his cigar, me with my cigarette — and just talk and laugh. Those moments were simple but unforgettable. He taught me so much, not by giving lessons, but through his stories and the way he lived. Every time we met was another great memory to keep. I’m so grateful to have known David. He’ll always have a special place in my heart.
