Passed peacefully at Ernest Rutherford on Thursday 6th March 2025, aged 96 years.
Dearly loved husband of Deci, father and father-in-law of Sally and Trevor Mackenzie, and Stuart and Heather Lewis. Loved Grandad of Dylan, Sam, Kirsty, and Michael, and great grandfather to 5 great grandchildren.
Heartfelt thanks to the Ernest Rutherford staff and Nelson Hospital for their care of Bernie.
A service to celebrate Bernie’s life will be held on Monday 10th March at Shone and Shirley, 164 Tahunanui Drive, Nelson at 2pm. For those unable to attend, the service will be live streamed via www.shoneandshirley.co.nz/tributes where you can also leave a message for family.

Bernie has been my greatest teacher and Mentor. Learnings from him still guide my every day life.
Bernie was well respected by all in the aviation industry. His was a life well lived in all respects. It was a pleasure and privilege to have known him and he was a true gentleman.
