You were (and always will be) the best Grandad I could have possibly hoped for. You always had such an unwavering belief that we were capable, and that lesson will always stick with me. Reliving some of my own childhood watching you play with Avalie recently has been such a joy and you will be greatly missed by us all xxx

I have such happy memories of Uncle Jack. He took me for my first aeroplane ride where I even got to fly the plane! Uncle Jack always made us feel so welcome at family get togethers which were full of love and laughter. My sincere condolences Aunty Jean, Garry, Ron and family. Uncle Jack will be very missed. Lots of love, Pam (niece)

Jack..you had the gift of making a visitor feel as though they were just the person you wanted to see. You were a wonderful friend to both my parents.. I remember seeing you lying beside my Dad Colin on his bed, holding his hand as he approached death in his 50’s… you were a great friend and comfort to him, and he and my Mother Marion shared so much of their flying and farming lives with you and Jean. And you both kept a loving eye on Mum till the end of her life too. I do remember one of the self help fixes that didn’t go so well. At the Matamata farm, the house septic tank got clogged, and you thought a wee bit of dynamite would help. Never has so much shit gone so far or so fast…the house windows facing the blast were entirely covered, but fortunately, they didn’t break! And as the youngest in my family, when you and Jean came to dinner with Mum and Dad, it was regularly suggested that I should go and wash my hands while someone told an “off” joke. I still laugh at some of those stories. You leave a lovely legacy in your family, and in our hearts.

Uncle Jack was always welcoming and fun. He always had a twinkle of mischief in his eyes. So many happy memories of time spent with Uncle Jack and Aunty Jean as well as our big cousins, Garry and Ron. You will be very missed Uncle Jack and we thank you for being such an important part of our lives xxx

Grandad, you were a 'man’s man'—a Jack of all trades but, as you’d say, a master of none. You taught me resilience, when to show empathy, and how to outwork the rest. Your dedication to Nana and our family was unwavering. I am who I am because of your life lessons, which will never be forgotten, and I hope that one day I become half the man you were.

Our sincere condolences to you Jean and boys. We were shock to see Jack's passing in the paper. Such a lovely man. The end of the fab four , Horace Beets, Jack Cole, Russ Harris, Graham Cantwell the fab four, RIP to all those wonderful men. We are very sorry we are unable to attend Jack's funeral. We will watch it online.

We have such fond memories of meeting Jack and sharing his love of horse racing in 2000. I will always remember our first day with him when he was showing us videos of races that had happened 10 years before and he was still shouting his horse on as though he didn't know the result! Malc was so happy when Jack allowed him to name his horse Kukri Lane when it was born in 2001 while Jack and Jean were staying with us. Our condolences to Jean and all the family. Ann and Malc

Condolences to Jean, Garry, Ron and families I have very fond memories of holidaying with Jack and Jean at Tauranga during my teenage years. Such a beautiful, kind and loving couple who were very generous to me. When I was 14 Jean taught me how to cut hair and to ice celebration cakes. Once I had my drivers license I was given the privilege of using Jean's car to drive myself to the mount beach. My 2nd aeroplane flight was with the generous curtesy of Jack as pilot. We flew over the Mount and he kindly warned me of air pockets which we bumped through. Such a thrill in those days to enjoy a birds eye view of the area. Great to have known you Jack and to have enjoyed your generous and relaxed nature. He was a true Jack of all trades.

Dear Jack. We will miss your happy smile and love of music. You have been a true family orientated husband, dad, grandad and special great grandad. Your love of 70 plus years will carry on that dedication. Fondest of memories Bev Hayman and Morrin Cooper

Jean and Jack have always been there for me. From dropping a sheep’s carcass on my lap for my thirteenth birthday (so I wouldn't eat the family out of house and home) to patching up an old rusty van to keep me on the road. Missed and not forgotten.
