On 21 March 2025, Steve passed away peacefully at his home in Papamoa, aged 103 years. 

Dearly loved husband of Nita Rewa Hetet – dec’d (nee Barton). Treasured father and father-in-law of John and Sybille, Christine and John – dec’d, Denise, Paul, and Jan. Much loved grandad and koro to his many mokopuna. Steve’s family wish to thank the team at Te Akau Hauora for their support and aroha shown to Steve.
