Funeral service held at Dil's Funeral Services Hibiscus Coast
Dear Uncle Colin, he was a true trooper. From a wonderful colonel to his men in the war, to a fine father and Grandfather and my kind and affectionate uncle Colin. He in his role in Federated Farmers and a faithful writer in letters to the editor on pertinent kocal matters, He who tried to matchmake me and who met each boyfriend and finally, Phillip.. He who would show me his blossoming chrysanthemums and fruit trees and cabbages. He and Shirley would whip up beautiful roasts and caramel pudding and he with his electric knife would skillfully show me the wonders of his carving exploits. They were a very sweet uncle and aunt. Im very sorry I was not able to be at the funeral. Condolences to you all. We attended several important wedding anniversaries and adnired Colins skills as a faithful friend to his anzac colkegues as well as warm father and grandfather and faithful husband, squash player and attendee of the local Anglican church, where he was always looking our for others. He loved his chocolate almonds and I usually tried to give him some around his Christmas birthday. I will miss you Colin. Thankyou for your great compassion towards me as you niece.. I pray that the Captain of the Hosts will bear you up on high with heavenly salute as they did on your wedding day at Burnham, many years ago, when you married,Shirley. Godspeed, and I, too, salute you, dear old soldier. I will remember you. God Bless all your dear fanily, Love always, Your niece, Jane.
Thinking about Colin today. He was a kind and helpful neighbour for many years in Castor Bay. We enjoyed many laughs and stories together, often over a drink. Love from the Massey family in Blenheim. Edwin and Kay Massey.
